Special little comic I did for my Snails ask blog Ask-Glittershell: [link]A lot of love and twice as many layers went into my first real comic. I'm quite proud of it. The comic itself is narrated by Snails, and sorta preludes the blog and gives a bit of insight into what the blogs story is about.
I'll let the comic itself do the rest of the talking.

[Note]: Some people were mentioning this, it's not about dyslexia. He just really struggles with academics. The book is a visual gag etc.

I don't seem to have commented on this the first time I saw it on EQD, and as I'm up to date on the blog (and have it bookmarked after seeing it on EQD) I thought I'd drop by. This is a lovely, touching piece. Sad and beautiful at the same time, I think you've managed to tell a powerful story about a difficult subject in a short comic. Poor Snails. Really nicely done!

Beautiful, moving comic. The socks metaphor is surprisingly powerful - a great way of making a very difficult subject easier to talk about, too, and easier to understand, to the extent it can really be understood at all if you're not in the same situation.

As a transgendered woman myself, this comic was like a truckload of bricks. It's an absolute nightmare to have to live with the feeling of dysphoria, day in and day out, and I don't think there is any combination of words in any language that can properly articulate just how unbearable it can be to lead an existence that feels so profoundly broken to the point of no repair. I've been on the brink of "stopping" as well, and would have, had I not been talked down by a friend. This hits very, VERY close to home.

Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I am not gender dysphoric myself, so to hear from individuals who have and are living through this that I was able to portray it appropriately is a wonderful mix of humbling, relieving, and encouraging.

I'm not transgendered myself, and for that matter I'm just a random person on the Internet, but I have a few transgendered friends, and there's so much familiar pain in your comment that I can't help but reply.
I cannot claim I can truly understand how you must feel; I've never experienced this sort of dysphoria, thankfully. I've seen it in others, and it's broken my heart to see my friends suffering so much; but I've also seen how wonderful it is for someone to finally be able to be what they really are, and what they've always been deep inside.
Please don't give up hope; things CAN get better, and they WILL get better. And some day, it'll be time for a new change to come, and the time will come for you to fulfill YOUR destiny, too. You're a woman, and nobody can ever take that away from you; and some day, you'll finally be whole.

It wasn't until I read this a second time that I realised snails was talking about suicide near the end( something I won't ever consider)! wonder what causes people to have mixed wires about their 'gender' like this.

The most reasonable explanation for it that I've seen is that it has mostly to do with prenatal exposure to androgen , a lack there of, or an insensitivity to androgen exposure. There are a lot of medical studies online you can read if you care to google them. I'd also recommend watching [link] as well as this guys other videos concerning transgenderism.

It's just who they are, or more importantly who they're not. The total dysphoria and feeling of wrongness with your body combined with the social stigmas attached to it result in a terrifyingly high suicide rate :/
