Description
Special little comic I did for my Snails ask blog Ask-Glittershell: [link]A lot of love and twice as many layers went into my first real comic. I'm quite proud of it. The comic itself is narrated by Snails, and sorta preludes the blog and gives a bit of insight into what the blogs story is about.
I'll let the comic itself do the rest of the talking.
(Yay EQD! [link] )
[Note]: Some people were mentioning this, it's not about dyslexia. He just really struggles with academics. The book is a visual gag etc.
(If you feel so inclined to share and post this comic places, please be my guest!)

About how on the outside Snails is a colt, but inside her is a girl. His body doesn't match who he is on the inside. He wants to embrace it, but only in secret or around others who understand. What he does in public is an act, because inside, his soul is that of a girl.

It's a legitimate thing too called gender identity disorder. Boy/girl that feels they've been born into the wrong body.

Not to diminish the legitimacy of GID, but the transgendered get a little wary about furry lifestylers ("species dysphorics") and other forms of otherkin. That's where philosophy matters: does the non-existence of the matching form matter in determining whether it's a biological flaw or a psychological condition?
I'm not a pony otherkin nor transgendered, btw, and to reiterate, I do not want to diminish the legitimacy of either GID or species dysphoria. This is something that matters deeply to me for various reasons. It's also a discussion I don't think anyone is really ready to have, on a legal, moral, or religious level.

I applaud and commend your respectful treatment of what is a far more complicated issue than many treat it as.

Thanks. Having gender issues pop up in the near family (uncle) makes one ponder a bit more deeply.

I'm not really sure where the species dysphorics tangent came from.

Lyra. Her condition is treated as a joke, but her heart aches as much as Mr. Matching here.

I hope you realize that 99.99% of furries aren't "otherkin"... right? In fact they tend to be frowned upon in the fandom...
(I'm a brony and a furry)

When I was more active in the furry fandom, '97-'04, it was more like 15% species dysphorics, about half of whom were also gender dysphoric. Perhaps the rise of "anthro art" as a preferred label has increased the casual side of the fandom in a way the Burned Furs never could? I remember a time when we furries claimed that 99% of us didn't wear fursuits - we weren't like "those weirdos." Ah, those were the days.

and I've only been a part of the fandom more recently for the past few years. I suppose things have really really changed?
I feel currently fursuits are really looked up upon lately (which makes me super happy, hell, as of 2011 (in a survey on FA) 22% of the fandom owns one :3

I didn't understand a word of that, I'm going to assume that was intentional. My comment didn't really warrant a response (from anyone), I was just stating a fact.

i believe what he's trying to say is that those with the conditions of how Snales is described are passably not to comfortable about it being displayed in creatures that are non-human (if at all) and if shown on these creatures does it mean its a physical or mental "problem"?....also he is stating that he is not of the sub-group in question, and believes that the topic is to sensitive to be discussed at this time.
i think that's what he said >.<
