hi there! i am in a bit of a pickle. I need to use these sprites for a base. It's for a friend. If I can't then could you make the sprites of his characters and give them to me. Thanks

You can use them as a base if you need to.

Thanks. Where can I find the other ones for the animating the laser fire or that is easily done?

I never uploaded the laser beam sprites. If you have an animated GIF program, you should be able to open the GIF version of the laser fire animation that's in my gallery. Then you could copy and paste the frames into MS Paint.

Go to Google.com and look for the "Beneton Movie GIF". It's free for download. It's the program that I use.

You've had problems with "copyright violations"? It seems that sprites are supposedly "illegal" on DA.
......
Which is complete nonsense.

It's only against the rules if the sprites you use were not created by you and you did not receive explicit permission to use them. In the case of sprites from Sonic games, they were created by Sega, not any deviants. This is why they are against the rules. Also, modifying official sprites that you did not entirely create yourself is also against the rules. However, if permission is obtained, sprites can be used according to the deviantART rules. Since no one is going to get permission from Sega to put their sprites into one of their sprite comics, it's pretty much a given that using official Sonic sprites is against the rules.

But if SEGA actually cared about people doing things like that, wouldn't they have had sprite comics and sprite databases shut down?

Kryptid In reply to SourceSizeShenanigan [2008-08-02 23:56:04 +0000 UTC]
They probably don't care, really. I think the point is that deviantART is meant to be a place where you show off your own art, not the art of others or modifications to the art of others.

I suppose you have a point there. Sprite comics, however, are usually made with a comglomeration of other people's work, but those people make that work so that people can make things with it (as long as you credit them).

I'm not staff, so if you want the rules changed, you should contact someone official. Don't bet on it, though.
