Well I don't know how to use it either, all I do is using layers and I don't even know what gradients are! It's just me, the mouse and doing some experiment in the different options, after all just look in my gallery the first pics I have

And a gradient is when you have one color fade into another one, comonly used for shading and stuff.

I particularly like the lighting in this panel, and I must tell you that I love how you gave Robin the stern attitude and Raven the blushing negotiator attitude.
It's a great scene.
