It would've been cool to have him as a companion.

Do you like Ulysses?

I find him a bit whiney and annoying, yet for some reason I actually always just talk him out of it and let him live... XD

Love the guy very much Trough I understand why many players find him annoying. But from RP perspective journey at the Divide was an amazing experience for my Courier. Like a rite of passage. And Ulysses acted like some kind of "evil mentor" who have tested my char (that reminds me of Kreia in KotOR2)). I even liked his manner of speech cos I've RPed my Courier as a tribal in origin, so they understood each other perfectly)

From a roleplay standpoint it's fully of plot holes and way to linear...
They force you to launch a nuke, even if you don't want to.

He just whines about losing a place he wanted to call "home" and he blames you for bringing the triggering device, eventhough you merely were doing your job as courier.

Yes, I agree that the DLC's structure is linear. But for exploring we've got 3 other DLCs with loads of locations and sidequests. In terms of storytelling it's no more linear than any other quest line. There are branched dalogues, choices (you CAN cancel the nuking with the help of ED-E, but poor metalball would sacrifice itself) and consequences. Which helped me to develop protagonist's personality, give him food for thought and some motivation. I especially like the dialogue where, depending on player's alignment (when it's not bugged), Ulysses criticizes each and every faction. So typical of him cos he is in constant search of an ideal "nation he belives in". This perfectly matched my Courier's thoughts. He disliked all factions but didn't have guts to take over Vegas by himself. Ulysses' trial exactly encouraged him to show all the powermongers a middle finger and to build (or at least try to build) this ideal nation.
And all this stuff about Courier blowing the Divide is so typically Fallout-ish XD It happens so often in this games. You do a seemingly unsignificant quest (or, conversely, skip it), completelely forget about it in five minutes and run off to other locations. Then at the end of the game you watch the slideshow and - ooops! - see that shit happened and people got killed because of this one quest. Exactly the same in Lonesome Road: something random and insignificant which you did long time ago and forgot about could bite you in the back.
TL;DR My char and this grumpy guy get along very well, can't see any reasons why I should dislike him
