Yes, it appears to be a real place. I don't know what you mean by "He took photo of every season." So, you're not calling it 'photo-manipulation' -- OK, but a piece like this can be done largely with photo-manipulation' along with some tedious, hand pixel work to polish it up. I've never used Twitter. I don't know how to find his post. I've been a computer graphics artist for thirty years -- I should be able to mimic this style with the tools I have.

I love this technique in photo manipulation. I must figure out how you do it, and I'm sure it requires some painstaking work. I have the basic tools for it. Some of my photos would be great in this form. Have any tips? Don't make them a secret. Let others try to do this too.

FYI, This is not photo manipulation, you can check Kusakabe's twitter, he posted the process from sketch to finish 
Though Kusakabe did use photo reference, and for this one, He took photo of every season, so it's based on real place.
