Description This is a part of my Inkling series. The type of art (I am told) is called space elimination art. The originals are sharpie on card stock, 11"x17". The originals are not for sale, but prints of the Inklings may be purchased for $25.00.

The inspiration of this piece was the 70s. It was my first Inkling and is perhaps one of my favorites. I hope you enjoy it and comments are welcome.

More Inklings can be seen at my online gallery:

What's most interesting about this to me is that it has elements of the 60s and 70s popular posters but it's black and white, which really changes the overall effect. If you haven't already done so, you might want to check out the Fillmore style, which was heavily influenced by art nouveau. They might give you some inspiration for Inklings. I love those posters and cards so much I actually saved up and bought 2 originals from a poster store in San Francisco.

Hi... thanks so much for commenting on my work. The idea for the inklings came as the culmination of a childhood dream. When I was a kid, my teacher had us scribble on a piece of paper and then color in all the spaces. Space elimination art. I loved the exercise, but I was dissatisfied with the results because it was too.... messy. So, for years I've been trying to conceive a way to fill up the page in a more orderly fashion. That's how the inklings were created - or maybe why they were created. I don't know of any place where you can get tips on this kind of art - I'm sorry. My tip would be - let your imagination run wild.

Thanks again for the comment. Take care, Kate

I'm glad to have met you too! I mean, when I joined dA I already had a circle of friends from another website, so I know how nice it is to have that support structure. But i met a lot of people here as well, so I hope you do too.
