There wasn't really much that Steven Stone could do nowadays, now were there? He gave up his position of being a champion to go into caves, and search for stones. But eventually, he'd seen everything that there is. Each cave started to look like the cave before it, all the stones would look the same. Even if it wasn't the same type of stone. He had just grown bored of it. Left his collection back at home, studied them from time to time, and trained.

Wow. What a life.

Not.

Steven pretty much didn't know what to do in his life anymore. He'll admit that he missed being a champion from time to time, but that role was given up to Wallace. ...Well, was. Wallace had lost that role after having a battle with Ruby. Steven couldn't stress this anymore- he was proud of him. From meeting Ruby in a cave to recieve a letter- from protecting him from a bunch of wild mawille, he had watched Ruby start off as an intermediate trainer-to the new champion of the Hoenn region.

It had taken Ruby about two monthes to finally fill up the position of being in the champion room- and wait for that one challenger who would be able to defeat him in a battle, and become the new champion.

But that was enough of thinking about Ruby-

He wasn't in the Hoenn region at the moment. He was on a vacation. ...Or, er. Was traveling. He didn't really need a vacation, he had no job to take a vacation from. He had found himself traveling to far off region- one he had just found out about a few days ago. The Unova region, a region that was more... 'city-like', he had read.

And boy, was that true.

Steven had taken a glance at every surrounding nearby, taking them all in. He even had found a few caves within the routes! ...But the problem was, they all looked exactly the same! The stones, too!

Steven hadn't grown bored of Unova- but he did grow bored of the caves. But the pokemon in that region were kinda- well. Odd, in his eyes. But the sights were something else. He wouldn't mind staying in the Unova region, if he had too.

But there was something that he wasn't expecting- at all.

On his way to Opelucid city, he had ran right into a man. Dressed in a weird fashion, if he had to say so himself. But nevertheless, he would act as polite as he could towards him. "Sorry about that, sir. Excuse me-"

"You- you're helping me."

The man just simply replied. Glaring down at the other who was just slightly shorter, he grabbed Steven's wrist and started to walk off.

Steven stumbled a bit behind, but caught up with him. He tried to get his wrist out of his grip, but he was too strong. Steven only stared up at him as he was forced to walk by his side- before finally speaking up. "...Helping you with what?" He asked.

The other just took a slight glance down, before both arrived in front of a large castle. Steven only stared up in awe- just what in the world was going on?

"I have to go somewhere. I need someone to babysit my son. He needs some other human contact, considering all the others who I used to watch him are out doing something." The man spoke.

It took Steven a while to process everything that the other had just said. Okay- so. He was just pulled out of the streets while he was wandering around, viewing everything he could- to babysit some man's son? And this man- lived in a freakin' castle?! Yes, he was confused. May he mention- that this man just pulled a complete strangers off the streets and entrusted him with taking care of a kid? Steven knew next to nothing about how to handle kids, but then again he couldn't be sure. The most he's ever gotten to babysitting was when Ruby or Sapphire came up to him needing help with their problems, and laughed in his face when he messed up saying something.

"...You're trusting a complete stranger to take care of your... son?" Steven finally asked.

"What's your name?"

"Steven Stone."

"Now you're not a stranger." Ghetsis spoke. He grabbed Steven's wrist again and nearly threw him inside. "His room is on the third floor, the first door you see." Ghetsis said. He closed the door behind Steven- well, slammed it close.

The sudden slam caused Steven to jump a bit. He glanced around the inside- everything looked so...fancy,  but plain. The floor seemed to be lit up, when he knew himself it wasn't. Every step he took towards the stairs, seemed to echo behind him. Was anybody else in here asides from him and his son? It didn't seem like it. Upon approaching the stairs, Steven was taken aback.

There were so many steps. If he had to take a guess- approximately over 50? And there were two flights of steps he had to go up. So, 100 steps just to take care of someone he didn't even know. He took the stairs- walking slowly to look at some of the pictures that hung off the walls every now and then.

Upon watching the pictures pass, there was one question that crossed his mind.

What was "Plasma"? Maybe he could have time to ask that one man a bit later. If he ever returned, that is.

He got to the second floor. There were very few doors, and it seemed all of them were empty rooms. Once again- the placement of everything. It was so fancy, but plain. Just like the first floor. His footsteps echoed behind him,  it made it feel like there was someone walking behind him. But he knew rather well, there was no one there.

Ah, how lovely! Another flight of stairs. And thankfully, it didn't seem to be as long. Just a bit short, maybe twenty steps shorter? Steven walked up the stairs, his footsteps soft. He glanced at the walls curiously- there were no pictures. This staircase...was rather glum and dark for a castle.

But finally- he got to the third floor. The floor that had the room, in which the man's son was waiting. Did he even know he was getting a babysitter- that he didn't even know? He thought for a bit before walking up to the first door, his hand on his hip. He stared up at the door for a short while, before taking a deep breath. He put his hand on the doorknob, twisting it very gently, he pushed the door open very softly and peeked inside. The room was so- so childish. So filled with toys- painted in a childish manner. This kid definitely had to be no older than ten. He took a step inside, pushing the door open completely as he noticed a small, young green haired child looking up at him curiously.

A small smile appeared on his lips as he closed the door behind him, and he took a few steps towards the boy. The boy trembled lightly, not used to other humans. The way that he was taught- he believed that all humans were horrible to their pokemon. He thought that they were all monsters, causing him to believe the same thing about Steven.

Steven took notice of the boy's trembling, and he stopped. "No need to be afraid of me," He said. He got down onto the floor, his knees to his chest. Hugging them to his chest lightly, he smiled again at the boy. "My name is Steven. I'm going to take care of you for a short while until your father comes back."

"P-Papa sent you here?"

The boy spoke. His voice was so soft, gentle, and fearful all at once. But at least it caused him to stop trembling, and perk up. He crawled just a bit closer to Steven, but didn't smile up at him just yet.

Steven nodded his head. "Mm, so theres no need to worry. What's your name?" He asked.

The young child looked down at the floor. He figured that his father wouldn't mention his name. Nowadays, his father barely mentioned him at all. "...Eh--...Eh..N...." He finally spoke.

Steven tilted his head to a slight angle as he noticed how timid this child got. He crawled a bit closer to him, and he put his hand upon the top of the boy's head. It cause the boy to jump- never having recieved human contact before. He looked up and saw the smile upon Steven's face- he was unsure as to what it meant.

"Are you afraid of me?"

N parted his lips. He shook his head instead of saying something as a reply. "N-No," He said. "I'm just...not used to other people...just...Anthea, Concordia, and papa..." N said. He stared down at the floor now, and he felt tears form up in his eyes.

It was only a few seconds later, that N started to cry.

There was probably a few things- no, a lot of things that Steven was missing. Most kids, when they see someone would jump in joy and be loud. But N was different, instead, he was shy. He was afraid, he didn't know what to do. And Steven obviously, didn't know why. So when N began to cry, Steven was quick to react. He brought the green haired child into a gentle hug, and whisper kind and gentle words to calm him down. He didn't know if it was helping, considering he was a complete stranger to the boy. He was shocked when he felt N's small and gentle hands clench onto his blazer, and he felt the boy look up at him. "S-Steven??"

"Hm?"

"C-Can you stay here for a while??"

Steven found himself smiling as he glanced down at the young boy. "...Of course." He said. N seemed to smile up at him, though the tears on his face were running down pretty quickly. Steven found himself using his thumb to wipe away the tears falling from his face, and N quickly wrapped his small arms around him the best he could and nuzzled into his chest.

What seemed to take a rather large amount of time, N parted from the hug and sat in front of Steven. No longer crying, but smiling. Just like a child would do. "Can we play? Can we?" He suddenly asked.

Steven smiled softly. He nodded, standing up now. N stood up as well, grabbing ahold of the man's hand and dragging him to a toy box. He let go of Steven's hand, grabbing ahold of the sides of the box as he pulled down on it slightly to peek inside. The whole box fell over, which caused Steven to take a small step back- while N jumped back. N grabbed ahold of all the blocks from the box, and looked up at Steven before running off to another part of the room.

"What are you doing?" Steven asked him, approaching him with his arms filled with blocks that N had ended up dropping along the way.

"I wanna make a castle," N said. And with that, he dropped the blocks and began to stack each one atop of the other. Steven sat on the floor, on the opposite side of N and carefully stacked his amount of blocks onto the others as carefully as possible.

After a few moments of stacking, and making sure nothing would fall, Steven was about to put the last piece on the top. But as he was about to, he took a glance at N who was staring up with an eager look upon his face. Steven lowered his arm a bit, and smiled at him before handing him the piece. "Why don't you stack the last piece?" He asked.

N was not hesitant to take the piece, and put the piece at the very top. A huge smile formed upon his lips, and he jumped up and down excitedly. "This is the first time I've ever played with someone before!" N giggled.

Steven was taken back. First time- playing with someone?

He blinked a few times, but smiled at N before laughing with him. He felt N jump into his arms, and nuzzle into his neck. "Thank you so much, Steven! Try and visit as much as you can! I like you!" N exclaimed.

Steven smiled, chuckling a bit as he put his hand on the back of his head. Patting his head softly, before hugging him back. "I like you too, N. And of course, I promise I'll visit you."

Maybe- maybe handling kids wasn't as hard as he thought it would be.
