The way I've come to see it, the Elements of Harmony are not so much PARAGONS of their respective element, as they are attuned to it such that, whenever they DON'T hold true to it, bad things tend to happen. Look at how it turns out for Applejack whenever she's dishonest, or when Rarity gets selfish.
