Scaling example of SD3 sprites, with and without a background (expand to full size to get rid of the black background, guess transparency can go a bit wonky). GIF's imported into Inkscape then simply scaled up to the appropriate size, not transformation as such so it should be a clean enlargement.

1.0 and 1.5 are too small for my liking. 2.0 is borderline, 2.5 about the right size but definitely noticeably more pixelated than 2.0. I'm looking at it at 1280 x 1024, which isn't even that large a resolution nowadays.
