Longtime & classic Pokemon fans alike will know the lady in this Mermay pic easily: It’s the Tomboyish Mermaid, Misty!
Though for newer fans of the Pokemon anime, here’s a little history lesson: Back in the days of the Kanto region, the anime had an episode called “The Misty Mermaid”(episode 61 of the original series), where Ash, Misty & Brock stopped by the Cerulean Gym to find that Misty’s sisters were hosting an underwater ballet. Naturally, Misty gets roped in to play the leading mermaid and thus we see her in the costume above.
So if you ever wondered why there’s a bunch of fanart on the internet of Misty as a mermaid, you can thank this episode in part for it.
