My arms scream at me, telling me to stop at once, so I obey reluctantly, hoping my efforts have been worthwhile. I lower the metal rod I have been using as my blunt tool onto the concrete slab, listening to the paint flake off in the silence from what I can only assume to be a pipe in front of me. Whatever I had been hitting, it was loud enough. It is when I place the rod down that I realise just how severe the pain in my arms is; a hot, throbbing sensation that I should've listened to long ago. Unsure of how to rest for the time being, I roll onto my side and bring my knees up to my chin, the thick darkness engulfing our world scaring me that little bit more, causing a few tears to drip and my body to quake.
Quake…
How I know now.
Kiku seems to sense my uneasiness, and so he crawls slowly over to my form, taking care neither to surprise me in the pitch black, nor to hit his head on what we believe to be a brick wall inches above our heads. All we can do is crawl on our stomachs and wait. We have no supplies, no light, no way to know the time. Two minutes may have past, maybe two days.
It is a void.
I feel a shaking and weak arm wrap around my stomach and a torso rest against my back. I begin to relax slightly when a face nuzzles into my hair, taking in its scent and texture.
"[Name], I'm so sorry…" he mutters without any pause, all gushing out under his breath as his last word crumbles.
"Kiku…" I whisper, the pain in my arms beginning to overwhelm me, reducing my voice to nothing.
"I'm so pleased you came to Japan with me. Earthquakes are very commonplace here, but never… never this powerful…" The tears are now apparent in his voice, words falling apart and tone jumping wildly.
I roll over to face him, only the black stares back at me, but I feel his arms still around me, his cocoa eyes on mine, and the warmth from his presence against my cold skin.
"But Kiku… I have you here with me," I confess to the darkness as it begins to sob quietly, ashamed of showing emotion, yet so overjoyed to hear something so uplifting in such a situation. I lean forward, my nose colliding with soft, wet skin. I plant kisses all over, and I am repaid similarly, the cold, rough concrete we lie upon not intruding in our moment together.
"I-I-If no one finds us…" he begins, "know that I--"
"love you… more than anything on earth."
I smile to the black, and feel it smile back.
We nuzzle deeper into each other, holding us close and waiting. Waiting. Waiting.
And then there was light.

Did anyone else think for a moment that they were kissing the concrete?

I would be absolutely fine with being stuck underneath a bunch of rubble with Kiku.

I'm stuck with Kiku in a tight spot where we can't move a lot cuz of an earthquake. What should we do? KISS.

Are all of your stories in the same 'universe'? As in, do they take part in the same lifetime of the same person? I really love them!

did we die? did someone help us? i know light either means death or possibly a flashlight search in this context.... but which

My intention was that the "light" meant they had been rescued, but I guess it's up to the reader how they want to interpret it

At my place, it's said that there hasn't been an earthquake in over 30 years... So we are all afraid that one day, it will just give us a huge one... With mountain eruption. (since where I live, it's covered all over with mountains...) Pretty scary...

We get a lot of earthquakes where I live too. We're almost on top of a fault line.

Woah! O.O Are they often powerful, or just minor tremors?

OHMYGOODNESS. This is awesome. I was confused at first as to what was going on, because I'm slow like that. I ended up scanning ahead to see if I could figure it out, and then Kiku mentioned earth quakes. Yeah...I'm pretty sure I woke my grandma up with how loud my "Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh my gosh!" was. XD Wonderful job as always! This was so much fun to read.~
Also, I apologize for not responding to your reply on your other story! I haven't checked my messages in a while, or else I would have seen your new story already, and would have replied! Terribly sorry! D:

^^ lol
I kinda like stories that vaguely hint at what's happening without being specific, so the reader has a moment where their imagination just runs wild as to what is going on.
Glad you enjoyed it! ^^
No, no, it's okay. Sometimes we've just got other things on and we can't check our messages. I wouldn't worry about it. You read it when you read it ^^

Oh yes, I agree. I don't think an author has to disclose everything to their reader. Sometimes it's even more fun to, like you said, let your imagination run wild as you experience everything with the characters.
Ahh, thank you so much! I felt really bad when I realized how much time I had let slip by.

Not too sure... If there's a high enough demand for it, then sure, I'll have a go. It was intended as just a one off, but I don't mind adding other parts if I know people will read and enjoy them ^^
