I'm Christian and I still don't get it. Honestly, there are so many holes in the Bible it's not even funny. Apparently believing in coming back to life after dying is a sin, but then what does that say about Jesus?
Honestly, the nerve of me! Believing in renewed life after death! Shameful! Despicable! How do I sleep at night...[/sarcasm]

Then... How come 777 isn't considered the "evil number"? It might represent the Trinity, but so would 666 in a way. That and a single 7, according to you, relates to the deadly sins so in that view, 777 would be the evil number, being bad luck and using the Trinity in vain.
I'm just curious, but I'm not at all religious (I prefer philosophy), so will you enlighten me?

It doesn't have to be crap if you believe in it.
Honestly, just the way this person's logic works doesn't make much sense to me. I would think that 777 is deseved to be the "good, holy number" because it represents the Trinity and the fact it took God seven days to create the world. So, in theory (if religion ever could have these), 7 would be lucky. However, said deviant is using the seven deadly sins which is contradicting the fact that 777 could be holy, hence why I'm confused.

Oh, I didn't catch that comment. Anyway, have read it, yes, the Bible, especially contradicts itself. It makes you wonder why people are so blind to not see it, at times. It's just so obvious.

I know... like Noah's Ark (whether or not it's fact or fiction).
An ark big enough to hold two of every animal on Earth. Built by one person.
Right.

aryllins In reply to Kurachika [2007-07-09 16:26:14 +0000 UTC]
*Shrugs* I was raised to believe in it. If I stopped having faith in Christianity it would be like some part of me stopped having faith in myself.
Just look at this:
"The Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy." (James 5:11)
"For his mercy endureth forever." (1 Chron. 16:34)
"The Lord is good to all, and his tender mercies are over all his works." (Ps. 145:9)
"God is love." (1 John 4:16)
---
These are all times where it is said that God is loving, merciful, and does not slaughter.
Now look at THIS:
"I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy." (Jer. 13:14) "Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not, but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling."
---
...Gee, God, not in a good modd today huh?

I wasn't raised in an overly religious family, weβre Jewish through blood and celebrate the major holidays but we donβt go to synagogue or anything like that. I hesitate to even call myself Jewish, not to denounce that part of me like Iβm ashamed of it but because I consider religion a serious thing, and what it means to truly devote people shouldnβt be compared to what I feel. It seems like it would belittle it.
When I used to tell religious friends Iβm Jewish but not overly religious they ask me what it is exactly that I believe and when I answer them saying βI believe such and such..β they respond with βah, (insert religious preference here) believes in that too! So you must be (religion of choice.)β When in fact the things I named can be found in multiple other religions. These are the βcommon senseβ aspects that unify all religions. (ex. Though shalt not kill thine neighbors dog.) I really didnβt donβt need religious scripture telling me thatβs wrong, I kinda figured it on my own. And unfortunately those universal things are only on the surface; once you delve deeper you get to beliefβs that look suspiciously like opinions. Those are the things that when you ask βwhy?β the response is going to be βjust because!β Which is a wholly unsatisfactory answer for me, I donβt follow blindly.
There are acceptations of course. I believe in an afterlife (of sorts) where you can reencounter loved ones, I believe in reincarnation (of sorts). These things, while there is no solid evidence for it, just feel right to me.

Wow, scary. Such blatant controversy. Itβs no wonder people are confused about what to believe, when the divine force that they turn to for direction is almost schizophrenic at time. Exactly which personality are you supposed to listen too? This is the question that divides people.

I don't come from a overly religious family... hell, I don't even go to church on Sundays. But it doesn't change the fact that my entire bloodline is Christian, so I'm sort of pressured to believe in God... not that I don't. I do believe there is a God... despite all the contradictions.
More like psychopathic... or schizophrenic. Both work.
I have tons and tons of little contradictions from the Bible. Yes.
"And he cast down the pieces of silver into the Temple and departed, and went out and hanged himself." (Matt. 27:5)
"And falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all of his bowels gushed out." (Acts 1:18)
...Yeeeeah, so how exactly did Judas die again?

I've never read the bible, just what I've heard was enough to turn me away from it. Which is why I don't like to discuss religion. I don't have all the facts. I'd hate to say something and unwittingly insult you.

Really? I think it's pretty hard to insult me since I'm neutral on all Christian levels... Even if someone said "GODZ ISZ LOOZERZ LOLZ" I wouldn't have a problem with it, ahaha.

That's good to know, I dislike offending people, and would never do so intentionally. Eveyone has a right to believe what they want, so I never redicule or belittle anyone's faith.. I like to ask questions and debate the subject but not to talk the person out of what they think is right, just to try and understand how they think. Besides if it's something the person feel's so strongly about they should be able to defend it.

...I can't see Spectra being lesbian for some odd reason like you and Neoyi can. I can normally tell if it's obvious enough or even just hinting or if it's the idiotic stereotypes (macho women and effeminate men, for example), but never with Spectra specifically. Then again, I haven't had any exposure to homosexuals, especially of females. At least then I can understand why somebody accused me of being one.

YO. Not cool, accusing someone of that... Unless it's obvious, in the case of Spectra. I can see why most people wouldn't think her a les, but for me my Homosexual Alarm went off the first time I saw her... and first impressions last.

The person told me, at least, that the reason I'm a lesbian apparently is because I associate with guys, rather than girls at least ninety-five percent of the time, so I'm a little tomboyish. I asked her why. It was of course a silly reason. She told me her "logic"- "Well, because you hang around with guys all the time, I thought you would like girls-just like them!" And... Let's just say after explaining to her I'm hetero I was put off.
But, why? How? Is there some kind of reason or clue that makes you think Spectra could be lesbian? I'm just curious, is all. I've never even dreamt of such an idea, let alone think about it.
