*cough, cough* .. let me point out that the hands suck, so please don't complainYup it's Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist
Okies dokie! Funny story behind this drawing: I was heading off to collage on monday by taking the usual ride on the bus. There always is this old lady that I see everyday on the way there and the way back home. On the way home she sat next to me while I was doodling in my sketchbook, and yes, she was staring right at me! Oye, I was feaked out. So I looked at her and she looked at me and then... old lady = "It Ed-kun!!!~!
Well thats about it. School it taking over my life, not to mention gaia, my protfolio, tests, tests, oh yeah, more tests. Peace out~! :heat: ^~

Oh My GOD. Hot grandsons that you can eat, grandmas that know about anime, and EDWARD ELRIC?!
What more could you ask for??
Ed: I could ask for a couple of more inches...it's not much.
Me: Um, it is much, Ed. Sorry!

*gasps* Oh my gosh, this is an awesome pic! It's so beautiful! Very lovely style you have, I must fave this! I love how you drew his face, not exactly like him but... I dunno. It's cool weird.
Dear me, an old lady knew who Ed was? Eee! I'd glomp her on the spot! I don't know anyone older than twenty or so that likes anime. My family is completely and utterly anime-impaired. It's pathetic how little they know and care.
I was shocked when my mom actually called it "anime" last month instead of "cartoons".

Im glad you like it. I always try to stray away from the orignal artists style, it's fun to do and is a challange.
Yeah, I grew up with my parents that had seen Astroboy, ghost in a shell, AKIRA and many many more (even sailor moon, ccs and dbz too + transformers XD). I live in a high asian area (Vancouver BC Canada) so it's really nothing really new to me now. I recomend that you take your parents to watch some of Hayao Miyazaki's movies like spirited away, Princess Mononoke, NausicaΓ€ of the Valley of Wind, Grave of the Fireflies or Millenum Actress. Hayao has movies that are great starters for first time anime watchers and tend to have really great stories, you can also find them in video store (yes! Even dubbed!). Thanks for the comment ^^

Yes, Miyazaki's one of my all time faves! I'm looking forward to the release of Howl's Moving Castle next year. ^_^ He's the one that got me into anime in the first place. I was at the rental store and saw Princess Mononoke and thought "Hmm, that looks cool." So we rented it, watched it, were absolutely enthralled by the beautiful animation and characters, watched it four more times before we turned it in the next day. I begged and begged my parents to buy it for me, and now I have the video of it (which means no japanese. ) But what I think is really amazing is that I didn't even know what anime was, or that it even existed, back then. Now I can't live without it. I've tried many many times to get them to watch it, but alas, they refused, brushing it off as a simple "cartoon" for young children. We did get my mom to take us to the theatre to see Spirited Away. I asked her what she thought of it and she said "It was different". I think she might even be warming up a bit to it lately. Sometimes when I'm watching some anime in the living room she'll come and sit and watch for a while. But I don't know what she thinks about it yet. And my dad... let's just say his mind not very imaginative in the least. It makes me angry sometimes, his opinion of anime, when he hasn't even tried to watch a single one! "Look! They're all speakin' gibberish! How you understand that?" "That guy looks like a girl, what a sissy!" "Uh oh, not a vampire!" Grr!
I'll make an otaku out of my mom yet though!

LOL, yup, thatβs a great start! May I suggest some Genre anime? Find out what your dad or mom might want to see, I always focus on comedy when introducing anime to artists or new viewers. Try to find a short series (26 eps or smaller) that has an easy story line and has a theme that they can relate to. I know a friend of mine hated anime, but when I lent her a few episodes of fullmetal Panic she couldn't stop watching it. Here's a tip, leave some anime that looks interesting out on the coffee table, they might get curious and watch it. Sometimes they (your parents) might not want to admit that they are watching "cartoons", find some ways to slowly introduce it to them. I did the same thing in high school when I was in art class, teachers didn't LOVE the anime art style, but by adjusting it, you can actually please both groups. If all fails, give them a dramatic movie or series to prove the story lines are so much better so they can see the difference from North American movies/cartoons to Japanese movies/anime. ^^
Good luck!

Well, I'm pretty sure my dad's a lost cause. He likes the simpsons, so I keep telling him he should watch Futurama or some other show like it. I think he'd like those (though I don't - they're kind of pointless in my opinion, unless you are desperate for a laugh). Now my mom--there's plenty of hope for her. I need to find a good romance anime or something like it. She loves to read romance books, so I'm hoping a romance anime might catch her attention? Possibly?
I've also wanted to force them to watch Akira or another great movie like it. That would sure show them the depths of the stories in some of them. Or maybe even Texhnolyze. That's a series for thought. Love it myself. My biggest problem is to get them to actually sit long enough for them to watch it. My dad leaves the first minute we mension the word "anime" or even "japanese". So I don't know what to do about him. He'd never just pick it up and watch it. Ho hum, what a hard case. I'll just have to try harder.
And I know what you mean when you say art teachers don't like the anime art style. Kind of ironic how they're art teachers yet so closed-minded to different styles. Nobody can ever see the beauty of it. There's so much to learn about it. And again we come back to the issue of the word "cartoon". -_-

well, you can always strap them down and sit them infront of the TV and make them watch anime XD. I hope you have the chance to show them how good anime can be. if not, at least you tried ^^

Nice pic... FMA is one of my Fave Animes.. I have the trading arts figure set a few of the art books & the reference guide used by Square Enix animators to do the show.. (yup big fan..lol)
Anyway.. I think the hands are fine.. they are the hardest thing on the body to get used too so don't be too hard on yourself.. I have trouble with them sometimes myself.
The colors on this are great.. I like it... I like it Alot!
Nice gallery all around... wish I had that many pieces in mine

LOL... for the 'hot grandson'... may he see it, it's lovely. Really. Hands are hard to draw anyway. And they really don't look *THAT* bad.
Like the color scheme also... nice shades fo yellow to grey to black... ^^
