I like how you've handled the dark and light aspects of the story.
The boarders add to a theatrical edge to things, quite literally, and gives your pic a stylized elegance.

What better way show a flair for the dramatic with the scene from the masquerade ball!
The depiction of death and dark intentions that follows the Phantom everywhere almost fades away with the angelic imagery when he's meeting with Christine, the surprised reactions and the way the clothes flow of the onlookers adds to the rhythm of the picture.

I agree with AkiaWalker - the dark sets off the the colors well - keeps the lower half of the picture from being too overwhelming and the border allows the eye to travel the length of the composition in an uninterrupted flow, from dark to light. The colors in a consistent pattern - such as at the top - keep the composition neat and balanced. And it is extremely beautiful - a lovely visual opera. So, nicely done.
