Description Well - it's all done! Huzzah!!!

My home PC is sooooooooooo slooooooooooow so the switching between PS and Maya was a lesson in patience.

The texturing isn't 100%... I think some of the panel lines are too thick in some areas, but myeh.

Gawd I hate texturing... hmmm, hate is such a strong word - well, i dislike texturing... hows that?

Nice. There should be a toy of this, although I doubt a simple gun would work for an altmode. Perhaps a hovertank?

Well, If u read IDW's G1 Transformers series (which this design is based off) you'd see his alt mode IS a tank

No access to it? Go to ur local comic book store - or order it off the [link] - must have! I suggest 'Infiltration', 'Escalation', 'Stormbringer', 'Revelation' and all the spotlights!

DK2K1 In reply to kurisama [2008-07-09 11:21:33 +0000 UTC]

Is it wrong that I think TFA Megs would pretty much own G1 Megs in a fight?

Seriously, based on what I've seen, I can't make that up.

Looks simply awesome!!! I understand your frustration with PC's speed. Mine is similar at times (just rebooted it last week after I got mad with it! >_< I may not be expert in textures but it looks great the way it is, though it may lack the realistic look I think you were looking for.

Thanks! I wasn't going for realistic - just wanted to make a model from EJ Su's designs!

I see. I am not familiar with the work you're referring to (haven't seen a TF Comic since IDW picked it up. Yep. I've no life). so I can't judge accuracy. Regardless is a great work!

korium9 [2007-11-21 07:50:09 +0000 UTC]

sweet work.

I'm working on a 3D Megs (my own design), so here comes some questions.

[note, if it doesn't apply to megs, I suppose substitute methods from bumble bee or those awesome seekers]

Does he transform?

[if so] How'd you go about rigging him?
Do you keep them as one model, or do you have multiple? (ie. a vehicle model, a robot model, a transforming model) I've read that's how Citroen did their commercials.

I'm debating going the latter as keeping all the articulation (particularly involving the waist) is bloody tough without losing sanity.

I know the design existed already, but in order to figure out how it would transform, how do you block out this?

sorry for this flurry -- and I'll probably have more.

kurisama In reply to korium9 [2007-11-21 23:32:03 +0000 UTC]

Why thank you dude!

Well, lately - my Transformer models do not transform, however Bumblebee does and so do a WW Prowl and WW Wheeljack I made. Because these were made for the Mosaics essentially - I don't really need them to Transform completely.

I have seperate model files for their Alt modes. For example - with the seekers, I made the F22 model first, UV mapped it and all - then chopped it up. Filled in the inbetween parts with robot pieces, looking at the art of EJ Su as refrence (as this was a design already done).

So in summing up, I have a Alt mode model and a Bot mode file. One is made from the other.

So depends if u are doing only static images or full motion video I guess.

I rig them really simply - for example with Megatron or the Seekers, all the major parts of the body were boned, neck, torso, fingers, attachments on back (wings or tracks) etc, etc. Try and have a joint for the hips/waist, lower back, abdominal area and torso - to allow for any articulation u may need - I usually do the main joint in the chest, a joint in the ab/lower back area and a joint in the hips/waist - that'd be the minimum.

With figuring out the transformation - look at all the refrence u can get ur hands on - which is usually the toys or comics - the comics are great - and the artists who do them usually post their art here on DA, which is awesome! I find EJ Su's art to be the best - consistant designs panel to panel, issue to issue - logical mechanical designs and a stylish flair reminicent of Macross/Gundam. If there is no refrence available - try and figure it out urself! Sketch and plan with a pencil and art book - I love to do this!

Hope this helps!

That is badass. What's the desgin from? War Within (I'm not too familiar with all the DW stuff) or did you make it yourself?

kurisama In reply to Slothboy3000 [2007-11-06 01:31:36 +0000 UTC]

I cannot take the credit - nor am I 100% sure who came up with the design - but he is as he appears in 'Stormbringer' and 'Infiltration', and a little tweaking from me. I had several ref pics and comics open at the time of cobstruction - and he changes ever so slightly in each pic, so it's a compromise!

Ahhh I see, so it's the IDW cybertronian Megs! Very cool, I've hardly read any IDW stuff either. Only Infiltration (where he's got an earthern mode). Everyone says how cool Stormbringer is though so I might as well pick that up!

Muchisimas gracias! Out of all of my creations, he is my fave - :-D

I'm glad u appreciate it! I had like 3 comics set up around my monitor and a few more pics up on there too while making this bad boy. I almost always start with the chest, then arms, waist, legs and finally the head.

I'm getting a lot of mileage on this model too - shows up in at least 2 more Mosaics i'm working on!

Stay tuned! XD
