Yes, yes. It's safe to assume you know of my recent passion for Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken.

But why though? That is the question...

For me, I'm drawn to what I feel is unique, at least in my eyes. Ever since I saw the first trailer earlier this year, I was sold and wished to give it a chance. The second trailer followed later on and more and more I was sold. I hadn't been this passionate with Dreamworks Animation since Monsters VS Aliens (story for another time). The art, the characters, the underwater environment and the giant creature battle.

I avoided spoilers any chance I got. But then I heard early reviews state the movie was terrible. And there were more and more scathing reviews. And it was judged by it's poor opening at the box office...I was hurt. I wished to see it and already it was nutshelled.

All my life I've liked many movies, television, cartoons, video games. Some I hold to my heart and others I've let go because I changed.
Some titles are still popular to this day, but I mostly hold on to ones I feel hold potential.

It hurts me when they aren't given the respect they deserve, while the richer more successful ones (the ones I deam unworthy) continue to flourish and prosper, receiving immortality from others.
To put it eloquently, it just wasn't fair.

They say it's a ripoff of Luca, but to be honest, even when Luca was released, it didn't even arouse my interest. Not even an iota.

When I finally got to see it in theaters, it was what I hoped it would be. It had heart and captured mine. The music, the characters, the colors, it was wonderful. Adventure, humor, it's heart and more importantly it's boundless wonder. Ruby was a superb protagonist, as were her family and friends and the additional side characters.

Before it aired, I'd hoped it would go places, but I wished that once for Monsters VS Aliens...and look what happened. I'm afraid this entry will follow the same path, and I don't wish it to happen again.

For you see, my decisions aren't measured against the weight of numbers or a coin, but by my own judgement. If the movie is good, I will sing its praises and defend it no matter what, unless something changes for me. And if it's less than my desired expectations, I will let it go without another word and move on.

I swore to myself "never again". Never again will I let numbers, box office earnings or premature reviews bombard me from anything I feel has merit. I am my own judge and until I see a movie or form of media fully, I MYSELF will judge it personally.

And once I've seen RGTK 6, yes 6 times while still in theaters and break my previous record with 5, it will offer me some sense of satisfaction. And show that RGTK got 6 more views than any other big blockbuster out now or since the beginning of this year, will EVER get from me!
I stuck by my principles over the numbers and came out on top. I also scouring around for any type of merchandise or magazine articles about the movie and hold on to them to show the movie DID exist, because a part of me is feeling it's like that. How did this movie matter? Simple answer: it mattered to me.

But in the end, part of me still feels it will be a small victory. My wish is for Ruby Gillman to somehow continue despite the odds and the poor hand it's been dealt since it hit theaters.

I like this movie, yes it could've been longer, some characters could have been given more to do, but I'm thankful for whats been given.

I hope somehow it will get net specials, holiday themed ones and impossible as it may seem...a sequel. Yes, it maybe too much to hope for, but I really wish for it to be possible somehow...someway. That is if anyone at Dreamworks Animation will give a damn.

Toni Collette as Agatha Gillman, Annie Murphy as Queen Nerissa/"Chelsea Van Der Zee", Colman Domingo as Arthur Gillman, Jane Fonda as Grandmamah,Sam Richardson as Brill, Will Forte as Captain Gordon Lighthouse, Jaboukie Young-White as Connor, Liza Koshy as Margot, Blue Chapman as Sam Gillman, Eduardo Franco as Trevin, Ramona Young as Bliss, Pam Brady, Brian C. Brown, Elliott DiGuiseppi, Kelly Cooney Cilella and director Kirk DeMicco, you have earned my respect.

I just wish there was someway, somehow my passionate message about this movie can be given to them but alas, I don't do social media.

I hope Ruby Gillman will rise like a phoenix in spite of what has happened.

I hope it's title will join the giants of other Dreamworks titles.

I hope Ruby Gillman will have more adventures to tell.

I hope they will be glorious and others can see the wonder that I see.

I hope generations will see its wonder as I have seen it.

I hope it will have a legacy.
