Description
It would be an understatement to say this was a work of obsession...This is my final entry for the Bring Your Vision to Life contest! :3 I worked really hard on it, so please full view!
Meaning:
Demons who walk among the earth are feared by humans. This is why the humans would lock them away in these impenetrable towers of stone.
This demon is not really a demon at all. She cannot help how she was born and what she looks like. Any mistake she makes is construed as evil due to the prejudice already against her from birth. She spends her life in the tower until it inevitably falls apart by itself.
Eventually an angel comes to join her. He has committed horrendous acts which he once fooled himself into believe were for good. His wings have burned and withered and he has nowhere to go. In his immense regret and hurt, he confines himself to the once magnificent tower for the rest of eternity, alongside the demon.
There are two types of good and evil. There are those forged by society, and those created by the decisions we make. Everyone has both good and evil inside of them. To what extent is the question.
There's a coin. It has 'heads' and it has 'tails.' But in the end it's still just a coin.

Indeed. I've been posting things every now and again. It's difficult to stay consistent, what with college, commissions, life, etc. Here's one of my latest: [link]

I absolutely love their expressions. they are so deep and so heavy. I can see how much of your soul you poured into them. perhaps you should make a book of it since obviously the story is there. Put it up on fictionpress.com so I can read it

beautiful concept of good and evil, and of what justifies an angel and a demon. just utterly beautiful.

Wow love the expressions on there faces, they work very well with the backgrounds. I really like the good demon bad angel imagery with the colors and for example the claw like nails on the angels hand.
Very nice job indeed!

Excellent. You've outdone yourself with this. Your best work for this contest without a doubt and I hope it gets the attention it deserves, especially knowing how much this contest seems to have been a bit of a burden/obsession for you.
I really love your vision when it comes to things like this. Your clearly take time to think about what it is you are trying to get across. This picture definitely needs less of a description than your other entries although I'm glad you did write one anyway.
The look on the Demon-girl's face is just great. It's that look of sorrow and sadness and you've really captured it perfectly. Actually, you've captured the look of similar on the Angel perfectly too.
Your proportions are perfect. The positions of both characters looks natural and I really like how he is slumped. It really makes him look like he's just given up with the will to live, as if he's used up his last amount of energy and has nothing else to offer. Resigned to defeat.
The feathers of the angels wings are stunning and I'd love to know how you do stuff like that. In fact I'm going to note you in the hope that you may be able to offer me advice and insight about doing a picture such as this in Photoshop.
You've done a great job on the bricks of the tower and the perspective is spot on.
The background is good in terms of its colours, especially the darker side of the picture and it serves as a nice frame to the whole thing without detracting from the main picture.
As much as I'd like to say that I can't pick fault with this picture, unfortunately I can't but that's just my 'nit-picking' side. Don't worry though because the so-called 'fault' (for want of a better word) does NOT detract from the picture and is probably not even worth mentioning........but I will anyway because otherwise I wouldn't be true to myself if I didn't. Sorry.
It's her hand and how it is 'spread'. It just looks TOO spread and too perfect and therefore not quite as natural as it should. I also feel it needs some slight detail on it in some way. Maybe if the tendons to the fingers were just slightly more defined and also some slight lines on her skin where her knuckles are would help too.
All in all, stunning work. Your talent for character design is 2nd to none as is your vision, and when combined you become a force to reckon with, as you've shown here. I sure hope you are pleased with this picture.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write such great feedback!
This was definitely an obsession of mine for weeks and it's a little frustrating that not that many people (even out of the people I know here on deviantART, aside from you guys) are commenting on it. Alas, I'm very proud of my work!
The anatomy is something that I changed a lot from my first draft to this finished product. I had to adjust the size of the heads, the arms, the torsos, but in the end I think I got it right. I'm especially glad that you respond to the expressions and the body language in the piece, because that was something I was concentrating on as well.
The tower actually was a decision I made at the halfway point and I'm so glad I did! I still had this idea about a demon who's prosecuted and an angel that gives up, but the tower I think made my idea more apparent, especially with the story.
The feathers in the angel's wings were supposed to look messy and withered, but I still wanted them to look nice, somehow. I'm really glad you think they're stunning! I would be happy to write a mini tutorial to tell you how I made it.
The hands were troublesome for me in this work. Not only getting the fingers right, but also shading, texture, and so on. When I envisioned the female's hand, I've thought of it barely touching the ground with the fingertips. Looking back on it, I should have conveyed this better, because it does sort of look off. No hard feelings! I'm happy for the feedback! (although I wouldn't mind an A+! )
You've always shown me such brilliant and in depth feed back, and I greatly appreciate it!

No problem.
With regards to a mini tutorial, well I'd really appreciate that although don't go out of your way to do one and just note me some time when you have the time as I appreciate things like tutorials can be quite complex to write, even if they are only simple ones.
I'm no teacher but I'll pretend I am and award you an A+. Afterall, the hand thing is only a very minor issue and barely noticeable anyway.
Good luck in the contest with this. From what I've seen of all the other entries you have as good a chance as any of the best ones.

Thanks for the A+! I also have a rough tutorial written up. I will see if I can finish it and note it to you later. For today, though, I will be busy.

That's the same with me. I like to browse through the 'newest' category so I at least don't get the all-time most popular pieces at the top. If I like it, I leave a comment and/or fav because I think they deserve a chance.

Thanks. It's just when you stare at it for long, you lose true perspective of the face. o_o Compared to what I had earlier (in progress), looks a lot better.
