I recently found my SM Starlocket, the good news it's the official Japanese, bad news is I never got it in a box. I wish I could find someone willing to sell their box, but like that would ever happen, especially for a Japanese locket. The even better news is I got it working again.Related content

Good luck, I think the lowest I see them go for now is 150$. It plays a slightly slower version of the opening theme, Japanese version.

Hmmm, I'm guessin European then since that is the box mine came with (found it last month), though mine does have a backwards 2 on the inside of the lid.

It really is a mystery, but honestly, I would say the 2 is probably just a marker for the mold it was made in.
The mold number could mark it if say this is mold version 2. Perhaps it fit the pieces better and such?
It could also be a cavity number, which means the mold it was made in made more than one of the same piece at the same time time. Each position in the mold for each piece is called a cavity. These lids may have come from cavity 2.
It sounds likely to me (if the correct boxes for these are all the same) that there was a mistake on the toy, like the copyright information. So the production company may have had to fix it, but the toys were released anyways. It may also be that the same producer made the toy, but the plate that holds the copyright information was changed for different orders from China and Japan.
"Made in Japan" doesn't always mean all of it was made in Japan. Same goes for China.

What I think maybe and this is all just guessing is that they rereleased the locket but instead of making it in Japan they made it in China (not the explain the mold number but the made in china, but still has the 1992) info and not saying Bandai Asia. But yeah that's all I've got.
