Description
Coloured Sketch of Ruby Rose!There are two things I wanted to practice with this piece:
1. Doing full bodies, since I rarely do those
2. Changing up my colouring technique a bit!
I didn't record any speedart for this piece, but here's a basic summary of what I did this time
1. Sketch
2. Lowered the opacity of the sketch
3. apply base colours, separating each element to its own layer
4. Did some basic shading, showing the core shadows
5. Then merge all the colour layers and the sketch layer
6. Further rendering / cleanup (mostly cleanup)
I didn't go too far with the last step, my main goal here was to see if the changes to my colouring technique works or not. Let me know what you think!
I did mess up on the arm and hand positioning though, this was quite a weird pose.

This piece is actually pretty light on effects compared to a lot of my other pieces. Lighting, reflections, and shading is pretty much everything colour, it's all about understanding how they work, and how you can use them to their fullest potential

For all different effect, I usually put them on different layer individual so I can fix things up if I did some mistake during the drawing process. Is it bad though, to have just the black color set on certain transparency to work as shading? I have been doing that for a long time, I'm still unsure cause there might have been different and better ways of doing the shading part.

I do things a little differently, I usually merge all colour layers together after laying down the base colours (sometimes even the sketch layer too), and work on one layer from there.
Also it's definitely bad to do the black transparency thing. It locks you out of a ton of options, especially when considering lighting. I'd recommend learning about hue, saturation, and value, and using that knowledge to choose your colours.

Aye, the hue, the saturation and value... those are the thing I rarely touched, maybe not at all.
Probably because of the software I used, GIMP, might be lacking in some features I didn't know about. Or maybe I just haven't looked hard enough.

The color and shading are well done. There is this elegance from the flow of the cloak and skirt, a richness even because of the colors you chose. The shading really ensuring that sense of depth.Β
At most, the pose, when it comes to the arms needs a little work. I think it's the hands that trapped you. When holding a weapon the palms of both hands don't normally face the same way (to allow flexibility and easy flow of movement). Some of the main exceptions are in fact staff like weapons, whether they're relaxing and holding the weapon on their shoulders (but palms facing where the wielder is facing), or blocking an attack. If I made any sense at all.
Still despite that, you get this twirly feel from Ruby XD which her energy makes using such a weapon look so easy to wield. So good job overall!
