Though the category as to "cartoon" also being comics could possibly be part of the same general style. However I do agree with you that comics and cartoons should be separate since they have very different artistic and drawing styles.

Well, a comic is just a way of arranging pictures together to tell a story, whereas cartoons are different types of abstract exaggeration of form for desired effect. A caricature is a cartoon directly derived from a specific person in the form of a portrait.
