Whilst it's based on a firework, it has no open flames or firey parts to their bodies. I see them more as a dragonic energy force, like the way fireworks may have been seen as magic in the past before they were understood by everyone.

I like the concept and execution of these a lot! Would the Mega Evolution be Dragon/Fairy-type? That'd give it 7 resistances and an immunity to a type it would otherwise be weak to.

Really depends on the point in the game they're obtained in. As for the Mega, Dragon/Fairy is justified since it's a Mega PokΓ©mon. After all, Mega Charizard X is Fire/Dragon-type, which is pretty damn massive for in-game, too.
