Seeing this colorful in your face deviation was like jumping into a time tunnel and landing somewhere in the late 1960's where I spent my childhood. I was reminded of the original batman tv series when they used artwork like this as part of the special effects. (POW!) Primitive and cheesy? You bet. and did we love it? You know we did! Keep in mind this was low budget television before computerized special effects and color tv's were still a new thing.
Also the underground comic books in the early 70's loved this kind of art.
Which is again, nostalgic for me.
Ok now on a more non-personal note; What i love most about this piece and this artist overall is the simplicity, bright colors and general feeling of "fun" when you look at it. This is traditional art, done with simple tools like sharpie's, pen or even crayon. Its appeal is in its simplicity, where a beginner or even a child can look at this and be inspired. Its not about a commission or about level of talent, competition or even practice. This is strictly art that is created for nothing more than the joy the artist gets from doing it. Doodles, coloring , sketches, whatever it is, this artist clearly loves what he does and hasn't forgotten how to have fun with it at its most primary level. In doing so, he encourages other would-be artists to pick up a pack of sharpies and get busy.
This artist gives us the gifts of encouragement, inspiration and the reminder to have fun.
