What is the novel about?

It's a horror novel, about some kids in a small town...some evil thing lives in the ground under the town and they try to fight it. Among other things, they get chased through a field by some red truck or machine, I don't remember exactly. It's one of the weaker novels by Simmons, but I'd recommend it for summer reading
