Also don't forget that the heroes appear to be about 18 which is considered the adult age in the US while in the anime other heroes were able to start their pokemon adventure at age ten.

Another thing, is that in Victini's pokedex entries, it says that it produces limitless energy, which it shares with others (America is the pioneer of nuclear and hydrogen energy, plus creating the internet and such which creates mental energy) and also that whatever trainer has Victini on their team cannot fail at what they do (A reference, perhaps, to America's tendency to succeed at things that have been deemed impossible)
I agree greatly, It's been my theory since Wooguru was revealed that Isshu was off of America or New York. This is the first I've been able to compare NJ/NY to Isshu's map, though. Looking very likely!

I've found some other places in Japan which could actually be Isshu. As you know, the whole place doesn't need to fully look like part its based on, like Kanto and Johto :3

The PokΓ©mon Company have confirmed that Unova is not based on Japan like the older regions. They said it is based on USA. I did not realize that it was based on New York before now :3
