Backstory:

Midnight was born with the rare ability to "Rift", or travel freely to many dimensions or planes of existence. And although his adventurous nature has taken him to many strange and wonderful worlds, he always called the Piloral Plane home. A world in which daylight is nonexistent, Midnight lived with his parents. He had a simple and humble life, finding work wherever he could, often fixing and maintaining the city's floodlights that illuminate the streets. When he wasn't occupied with his duties, he would journey off to the next new world he could find.
Simple electrician by day, adventurer and explorer by night. Well, if those two concepts were understandable to the residents of the Piloral Plane.

But Midnight was very aware of the bright wonder of daylight. So drawn was he to sunlight, like a moth to a flame, he would eventually find not only himself burned, but he would see his entire home world burn before his eyes.

He would eventually cross paths with Proktor Pharis, an ancient warlord who sought to conquer all things in sight. After discovering Midnight's ability to Rift, he sent his minions to scour Midnight's home to find him, so that he might extract Midnight's powers and use them for conquest on a dimensional scale.
Proktor's monsters tore Midnight's city apart looking for him. After witnessing the damage to his home, Mid sprung into action and quickly dispatched the minions. Soon after, a larger wave of Prokor's servants came crashing down on Midnight, nearly overwhelming him if not for the intervention of a mysterious girl.

Midnight's rescuer revealed herself as Selene, a 6,000 year-old warrior-priestess from Proktor's world. She explained how she and her sisterhood had been battling against Proktor's onslaught for millennia, using ancient magic to live for thousands of years. She had gotten wind of Midnight's rare ability and pledged herself to Midnight's service as his protector. Together, the two traveled to many dangerous and beautiful worlds, looking for a way to stop Proktor and his plans for domination. Over time, Mid and Selene formed a bond that surpassed servant and master. Indeed, the spark of love had ignited within their bold hearts.

After learning of Prokor's long-guarded weakness, Mid and Selene traveled back to the Piloral Plane to confront the tyrant. Back in the city however, Mid accidentally ran into an old sweetheart of his. Her playful flirting threw Selene into a jealous anger, and she fled the city. Distorted by her feelings, Selene was captured by Prokor's minions under Midnight's nose.

After learning of Selene's kidnapping, Midnight bolted to Prokor's stronghold in a rage, tearing the place apart in the process. Arriving at the citadel, Midnight found that Selene was used as bait to lure him there. Preparations had been complete, and Proktor was ready with a machine to extract Midnight's Rift ability.

In a desperate bargain for Selene's life, Midnight agreed to trade his power for Selene's safety. In a triumphant roar, Proktor swiftly bound Midnight to the machine and began the extraction. With the transaction successful, Proktor attempted to open the way for the first world he would crush. Weakened and distraught, Midnight was helpless to stop him.

But Proktor was too hasty in his plans, and was unprepared to use his new power. the Rift he had opened became unstable, and crumbled. In a tremendous blast, the Rift tore into a massive hole. Meanwhile, the fabric of existence in the Piloral Plane had collapsed, and Midnight's world was falling apart before his eyes.

In a final effort to divert the catastrophe, Selene broke free of her bonds and used the last of her ancient magic to give Midnight and herself great power. They knew if they could destroy Proktor, the Rift would return to Midnight. But they had to hurry.
The battle was immense. The ferocity of each strike shook the citadel to its foundations. With the two heroes fighting as one, victory seemed to be within grasp.

Until Proktor took advantage of Selene's fierce loyalty to Mid, continuously striking him. As Proktor delivered the fatal blow with his ancient sword, Selene brought herself between the two. Pierced by Proktor's blade, she crumpled to the ground. Engulfed in sorrow and rage, Midnight harnessed the last of his energy to annihilate his foe. He beat Proktor down with an animalistic ferocity, finally striking down his life force with a blast from his Lunar Bolt. Defeated, Proktor exploded in a magical blast, delivering Midnight's Rift ability to him once more.

But it was too late. The Rift was too badly damaged, and the collapse could not be stopped. Not knowing what to do, he held Selene in his arms as she comforted him. She reassured him that she was finally at peace after these thousands of years, and could rest easily if she knew Midnight was safe. Mid begged to let him take her with him to another world. They could live in peace together somewhere beautiful, with sunlight reaching the ends of the horizon. But both of them knew Mid only had enough power left to travel alone.

Sharing a last embrace and kiss goodbye as the world crumbled around them, Selene shoved Midnight through the portal as the last remnants of the Piloral Plane dissipated. Midnight found himself alone.

He crashed through the first dimension he saw, and fell to his knees. Shock had overwhelmed him, and he just sat there, a fresh rain blanketing the empty grassy field he found himself in, and a new sun rising in the distance.
As the rain stopped, a cheery girl playing in the fresh puddles crested over the top of a hill, and saw a strange-looking hedgehog sitting in the wet field below. She shyly introduced herself as Faith, and offered her help to a lost hero.

Personality: Don't be fooled by his serious demeanor; Midnight is actually quite cheery most of the time and can be quite sarcastic. He is fiercely loyal and his sense of goodwill often leads to him being taken advantage of. Always curious, Mid is always looking for an adventure. He doesn't like to mention his past except to Faith and his closest friends. He can be a worry-wart sometimes and thinks about all the things that could go wrong with a plan. He's very straightforward and to the point. This makes it look like he lacks a sense of humor.

Weaknesses:

-Midnight was not the only survivor of his homeworld's collapse! Blink the Ferret was not in the Plane when it was destroyed, so she managed to avoid the catastrophe.
