Weeell here goes...
They are intelligent beings that live in the world of Elaisha, and they are able to control the elements (i think there are six? or seven elements). All Shinlai can control at least one element.
Also, when they reach a certain age, they undergo a ceremony in which their ears are cut off, and they get a mask, which they wear permanently for the rest of their lives.
That's kinda the basics i think ^^
