I personally don't mind in the slightest that they buffed him up. What I do kind of have an issue with, though, is the fingers. It DOES make sense to show them- as opposed to covering them up, like in the Japanese version (which I do believe looks a tad silly; I mean, how does one dig underground with those things?). But it is kind of visually jarring to me. I suppose I'll get used to it, and even if I don't, there's still the Japanese version I can turn too.
Also, it poses a bit of an issue to the people introduced to the series through this game and then go on to play any future Japanese ones that come out- namely, why has Knuckles shrunk? That will be interesting to hear.
Nevertheless, good job. I hope you manage to get the other three in SA style up soon- I plan to print the linearts off and use them as reference images, since they don't take up any colour ink. ( hope you don't mind)

Yeah I completely agree! The Japanese version doesn't make sense at all! Which is why I said a billion times that people who are working on this game know what they are doing!

HOWEVER, this is not to say that I would prefer this version over the Japanese version. The last thing I would want is for this version to be implemented over there (even in regular apparel). So while I have no qualms with this design, the official design will always be the Japanese version.
Regarding your statement about the developers, I personally think it's too soon to tell. It might hold true from a gameplay stand point ( we are talking about people who used to work for Naughty Dog here), but from a Sonic the Hedgehog standpoint, from what I've currently seen, it's still up in the air. But keep in mind this is from what I've currently seen, which isn't very much. And after all, the idea of secondary control based on abilities isn't exactly new to the series ( Heroes and Chronicles come to mind).
