Very nice use of symmetry and light. Immediately, the reflected apparition of the figure captivates the audience; the imposing posture and dark, striking streak of black both appear very confronting admist the murky water.
The rather murky, mottled colours use in the piece really bring along this feeling of monotony and sombre. This mood is heavily reinforced by the soft frame of darkness that envelopes the image; not only does it act as a natural frame to the image but an undeniably lonely, isolated atmosphere arises from that one figure in an empty plane of darkness.
Though, one cannot forget, perhaps the most meaningful, striking feature of this image is the posture of the figure. The surrender-like hands-up form appears to be directed at something, magnified by the light that strikes the woman's face - though it seems to only be directed at herself.
Combined with the sombre, dark, isolated atmosphere, I feel as if this image might be a metaphor for the mental struggles with oneself inside their own mind; isolated, shrouded in trouble, broken to the point of surrender.
