How about having the entire story divided up into missions, the way the anime is divided to follow different characters, and switch between them? Maybe that would feel more real, and there would be more gameplay than just being one character

omg, it is a good technology to playing, but yes, it would be a bit confused.
i would become mad with so much characters with his/her own mission xDD
when i made this PS2 front i was imagining the style of playing also and it might be simply in choosing between one of 2 protagonists, Kira or L, and try to discover him by deductions and traps! LOL
if he discover you or kill you, so you lose the game, and if you survive everything, you will be the god of the new world or to continue being the 1º dearly, intelligently and sexy detective of the world!!! (i'm sorry, my fangirlsm dominates me xD) though it doesn't have anything of relation with the anime/manga.
there would be many ends

How about different modes? Like you said, just playing through from either side, as Freestyle Mode, and following the story with missions as Story Mode. That way there's twice as much game and everyone has the choice!

CAPCOM? Because I lived on it since I was 5. Plus my dad used to work there.
Konami? Because they made Castlevania.
