Is finally finished! (yay?), this is a project I started over a month ago, but just because I'm THAT lazy I finished until now...little by little....some of them turned out like I wanted, but some others well... not exactly.
meh, I suppose it was a nice practice and I learned quite a few things as well, thought, gotta confess I was getting a little bit tired of this picture :I
Now I'm officially free to start new things wooooo!

I really love the face-paint, it fits so well. Although I personally don't like the short haircuts on the girls, I do understand that it makes perfect sense as they're female lions

Cub Simba and Nala's expressions utterly kill me every single time XD Actually, ALL their expressions are utterly perfect, even including the horror that is the sequel characters

well, my style was pretty wonky at the time, other than that, maybe it was because the way I drew their necks, or maybe their haircuts? I don't really know haha

I'm not fond of your choice in skin colors but I do love the art and designs. They certainly are diverse.

this is really nice but I'm a bit disturbed...Why is the good lions white and the bad hyenas black? I know it wasn't intentionall but still...

Sorry if you got that impression, but hey, there are also good characters in this picture that are "black", like Rafiki and Sarabi even Mufasa who is just mixed, and bad characters that are "white"(if that's what's bothering you)like Zira and Vitani, in fact they are all mixed with different races, neither of them are fully black, white or arabic, that's why their skin tones aren't from a "clean" palette but more from a "dirty-looking" kind, also I know the face features are a bit blurry and not that well drawn but sometimes is better to look at them to determine the character race, because just looking at the color of the skin may be a tricky way to do so (though, that's hard to do here on DA where there are many generic noses and lips and eyes, for example in anime style)
when I did this picture I didn't have in mind to set their story in our world but more into an alternate version of it, taking aspects of some of the cultures where the original lion king was meant to happen (but I taked some liberties and used things from another cultures and even from my own imagination because it was easier for me this way to maked them human)and so I kind of made my own "culture".
Personally, I really like the hyenas and I don't think they are bad maybe mischievous,they are an amazing animation success after all and also have one of the greatest personality combos I can think of. Shenzi, Banzai and Ed were meant to be more of an arabic/black + other, their very dark skin tone is because of sun damage to their skin for being out in the sun searching for leftovers like real hyenas usually do and for not having such a good luck so they spent more than the usual searching for food (thatΒ΄s when Scar appears on scene making them his minions in exchange for food)
many characters do not look how they should or how I will like them to look now, take for example Simba. but back then, when I submitted this piece it was what my skills "allowed me" to do.
I'm hispanic myself, latino if you like, english is not even my first language and I don't live in the states, I grew up with the spanish version of this movie, if I were still a kid, I would have probably made them all look like me, but I tried to do my research.
this is a picture I made for fun, don't let something this silly tell you about what are the ideological aspects of a person's mind...sorry for the big blah blah but I had to explain it better in order for me to sleep well tonight
again I'm sorry for the bad impressions you got from this, as you said and now can see, was not on purpose.

No it's okay! I was just a bit taken back about it but they way you explained it takes them out of this racial aspects of it. It's cool man, I really love you style and it really doesn't take away from the design, just a thought.
