This is a gift art done for the man I
. I've been putting my 
and soul into this drawing everyday for about 3 weeks, and I finished it very late last night, when I should have been 
ing. That's him, ~Blade-Angel , on the right. Handsome, ain't he?
And me, on the left. I actually have that kimono, irl. Er...well, its pattern is far more elaborate than this, but the colors are right, anyway. 
I'm dragging his clueless butt to a Tanabata celebration. 
This drawing also demonstrates why I rarely do backgrounds for my art. I'm not too good at them.
Given, it came out far better than I expected, but still... *sigh* If I had Photoshop, and actually knew how to use it to CG images, I'd put backgrounds in, but for now, crudely drawn ones will have to do.

My first reaction to this was 'this is too cute. (don't get the drop, though...)'
After looking at it more and reading the description, my thoughts were like
'oh yeah, kimonos... ...hey i should price those and try to buy some...'

His sweatdrop speech bubble (which in retrospect, should have been a thought bubble) represents a number of things. First, how completely taken aback he was when I finally let him know how I felt about him. Two, how inexperienced he is in this "type of thing" and how clueless he is about how to handle himself. And three, from a traditional Japanese perspective, how "unusual" it would be considered for a woman to be the "aggressor" in a romantic relationship. It's not as much like that nowadays, but...
Sadly, he and I are no longer together. Due to circumstances currently beyond our control, the relationship crashed and burned before it ever really got off the ground. I'm trying very hard to at least salvage the friendship from the ashes, since we were very close. But it's still very uncertain, because his parents hate me, and don't want him speaking to me, and they rule over his every action with an iron fist... 
Perhaps someday when he gains more freedom we can pick up where we left off...
You mean a yukata? ^^ They're considered kimono as well. "Kimono" literally means "clothing" in Japanese. Mine's not silk, unfortunately. I'm poor, so I couldn't afford one.

Characters are nice but the thing that really caught my eye was the trees. The trunks could be better, but the leavs are really great! Maybe I should try that some time.... Overall cute pic!

Well...looks like my gift decided to show its face on DA after all! Success!!! I, believe it or not, am the man she loveth! Ha! behold my wrath! (not that I have any to behold), but it really looks great, don't it? I mean, c'mon...how can you not look at that and say, "Hey, that looks pretty dang good!"? I'd buy a print of that...if I didn't have the orig! Great work Ruby...(I shan't use your real name, as you are known as Ruby here, wherefore I am Blade Angel...Excellent...)

i know that bkgds are always so hard, but y'know you put a lot more love and effort into the pic if you actually draw it yourself instead of just inserting one in with photoshop.

first of all, that is one of the cutest things I've ever seen ^.^
Second of all, I rather like the background--it's way better than I ever manage to do 0_x;; (then again, I'm SEVERELY bad with scenery)

I can never think of anything easy AND interesting enough to use as a background, so I usually don't bother. But I don't like how incomplete all my art looks as a result of it. I also have a problem with this, once I finish the subject of the drawing, and color it, I often lose interest and move on....

Hehe ^^ I can CG, but it's not too hard to do. And I still just... I dunno, I look at my backgrounds and go "ick."
Yeah, I sometimes lose interest in scenery too... that probably hurts a lot of my stuff; especially the natural media ones which I almost never put backdrops on.
