Description
From the eezo rich oceans of Marinch the Cresh may not be the biggest fish in the sea, but their high intelligence and innovation have granted them dominion over all things living on their planet. The Cresh evolved from bottom feeding omnivorous fish that used their tendrils on their double-jointed pectoral fins to forage for food. Like all life on Marinch the Cresh are biotically active and have incorporated their biotic abilities into all facets of their society, and even communicate through biotic impulses, rather than sound.
The Cresh are hermaphrodites, though they still need a partner to reproduce. One Cresh decides to lay the eggs, while the other chooses to fertilize, with the paired individuals usually choosing to live together so they can raise their young.
Without the ability to create fire like other sapient species, their rise to society took a very different turn from most other races in the universe. In place of conventional technology, they domesticated and breed their tools from the other organisms around them. This eventually led full on genetic engineering and gene splicing.
The Cresh have built entire metropolises from giant bivalves and fast-growing coral. They have cable-like worms that can carry bio-electricity from each household, and even specialized fish that can transmit radio waves.
Popips were the first of these living-machines. Small bioluminescent echinoderms. Domesticated even before the Cresh gain sapience, the ancient Cresh would gather the popips and breed them together to produce the brightest.
For their media transmissions they’ve developed cephalopod televisions and computer screens.
For their weapons modified gastropods that use biotics to shoot dense shards of carbon.
Eventually their curiosity grew and they started to explore the few areas of dry land on Marinch. They developed jellyfish breathers to survive outside the water, wearable slugs to keeps their bodies moist. And most importantly large crab-like crustaceans they use for mounts to move across the lands.
After conquering the land, their next step was the sky and then space. Their ships are composed of a multitude of giant, genetically altered organisms all working together in unison. Able to not only carry the crew but the water necessary for habitation. All the vessels are surrounded by a specialized slime mold that is able to vacuum seal the ships for space travel, and distribute nutrients to all living components.
In the few hundreds of years since achieving space flight they’ve terraformed and colonized many planets. Taking samples from the local flora and fauna, to develop more of their living machines. There empire is renowned for Biological manipulation and terraforming.
