Description A study I did of a particular style of oil painting. I really thinned the paint out and smoothed everything together far more than I normally do, and I think I could quite get into this way of painting.

At first I thought this was former supermodel Gemma Ward.

I love it. This technique rendered the thin silky lace of her dress, her peachy young skin and her big fluffy hair so well!

Absolutely beautiful. Classicly beautiful. I started working with oil paints maybe a year ago, but I still can't give myself to learn to smooth things out. Great job especially making the hair look soft, yet real, and in making the sheer and lace look like sheer and lace. Neither are easy tasks. Love it.

Yes, yes it is. I was trying new techniques and wasn't trying to make an "original" image. Why don't you show me all of YOUR highly creative paintings?

i really love the colours and the figure in this painting, but why is there no paint in the left corner?

It was a quick study, and to be honest, all the sides are wobbly and uneven... I just didn't crop the image very high on the computer.

That blending style seems to work great for the transparent fabric.

i like the blending of the hair, though the lacing could ue fine-tuning.... blend-wise, jus seems to stick out way too much being linear and all where the rest o the pic's about shape. nice technique, i've been itching to try it... but haven't any linseed oil for my paints

lachwen In reply to star234gurl [2007-03-25 02:02:11 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. I never ever use linseed oil though... it slows down the drying time of the paint, and I'm all about quick results. I always use Liquin as my main medium, and I've been very happy with it.

liquin? i'll have to check it out. i've noticed linseed slows downg the drying.. definitely makes the surface stickier, too!

lachwen In reply to star234gurl [2007-03-25 02:07:44 +0000 UTC]

It's great stuff! And it actually speeds up the drying time... a whole layer of paint will dry overnight, making it a lot easier to work within a deadline.

It's odd... but pretty interesting. She looks a bit etherial with the wispyness of her hair and the distance in her eyes. I'm not sure if the chin is too short. But I like how you can tell the sheer fabric over her shoulders is there even if it isn't quite visible.
