Description
Medium: dry pastels and acrylic paint
on hand-made Indian paper
Description: This was just an experimental piece to see how different media could be applied to the beautifully textured hand-made paper from India. Based on a project about dreams, and just experimenting here with some of the designs I used for it. This image is the precursor to my very large Dreamscapes project which I will also post on here.

The piece really does fit the title. It looks very much like the beginnings of a dream, when your eyes are closed and images begin to emerge. You captured that very well. Beautifully done.

Wow thanks so much! Truly
I am always the most touched when people interact this way with my work since I get worried that my message won't get across or that I am trying to show something that's too subjective to how I see things. So truly, thank you, it warms me to hear such words.

All of the colors are just so enticing that one leads to the other and vice versa. Very inspiring, thanks for sharing.

thank you
well the paper already came pre-dyed like that (black with silvery texture)....India is truly wonderful for hand made paper like this.
but the rest was done with mainly dry pastels and some acrylic paint

I am really glad you like em have you checked out the other parts of the 'dream' series??? Cause the precursor piece was just experimental, a warm-up for my 'Dreamscapes' works. Appologies that the photos of those are not that great....they were too big to get a whole shot of them with good lighting, so at the moment it's just multiple shots from different angles. But, I already have a photographer lined up to get proper photos of em ^^
enjoy.
feel free to add constructive criticism etc.

The patterns in this are amazing... I love the curling designs. (: It looks like the tooling on a very ornate piece of metalcraft, maybe... I like that sort of effect.

Yes, they're gorgeous... It's a pity that you couldn't get the whole of them into one image without skewing the angle, because I get the impression that seeing them full-size all at once would be an amazing experience. Even so, the ethereal details that are visible in the closeups are beautiful on their own.

Thank you so much ^^
Yeah this is all I have of them at the moment but over Christmas I already found a good photographer to get good photos of them....they are absolutely HUGE so but I talked to this guy and I think he is competent and professional and will do a good job....damn 3ft x 8ft.........when I was back with my folks for xmas mother was already warning me to try NOT to do anything this huge in the near future lol ... it was a hassle to get it framed etc.
hahaha sorry went off on a bit of a tangent there.....anyways, i am absolutely delighted you like it ^^ and yes I must admit I am a complete sucker for detail and even now there and little bits and bobs that I would like to have touched up or redone....but what's done is done and as long as everyone likes it I am happy

lovecraftian mean it resembles H.P. Lovecraft's style. It's quite the complement as he is one of the most important figures in american horror/macabre literature. Just type in "Cthulhu" to the search bar and see how many pieces are based on this one character of his. If you like mythology he is definitely worth the read.

Ah yeah thanks ^^ my friend Nepheleim mentioned him but said it was too much to explain.
Hehehe thanks I will take it as a compliment...though I don't think this particular work, at least to me, resembles horror/macabre :/
I looked him up after recieving your post and what caught my eye most is some book he wrote with 'dreams/dream' in the title...can't remember it off the top of my head but I am very tempted to read some of his work. Do you have any recommendations?
....oh and if you do try not to choose the really 'horror' ones lol....i am terrible when it comes to horror films and books, hahaha can't quite handle them.....usually it ends with needing to sleep with a little table lamp on! rofl

"call of cthulhu" is the standard by which he is judged, it's not horror in the modern sense, but falls next to edgar allen poe macabre. My personal favorite is "The Shadow over Innsmouth", but really since most, if not all, his work is short stories, you'll tend to find them in collections, i'd suggest his later works which tend to be more mythic than horror.

It almost feels Lovecraftian, especially the background. The subject is good, and somehow more upbeat. Than what, I don't know.

you truly capture the essence of a dream, no small feet. I get the sense of an old gods age in it, yet the warm yellows and red give it a real life. I've been staring at this piece for a good five minutes entrenched in its shuttle details of merging line and texture. I can not full describe how much i love this piece. Utterly amazing work.

Thank you very much for your comments, very insightful of you. But, this was only a preliminary sketch for three huge pieces in my "Dreamscapes" project....each was 3ft x 8ft!!!!! and those are truly amazing...possibly my best work to this date.. I will put some pics up for you ^^
I really did a lot of research for this project and put a lot into it....so i luv that you really get the feel of a fream from it, and of course that you appreciate it so much.
