Zutara Week 2020, Day 1 Reunion

A 7-part illustrated Zutara story for Zutara Week, and Day 1 is part 1. I’ll add the links to the next part when I post it. The flow is choppy here and told quickly, but I just wanted to get the major elements out of the way (and took way too long to finish for line art…).
Uki is a spirit character that Aang rescues in the spirit world nearly two decades past and asked if Katara wanted to help raise it. It imprinted on humans more than spirits, which is why it took a self-sacrificing choice that hasn’t been expressed in the Avatar world as spirits seem to avoid long interactions with humans. Uki gave her life to protect her family. But there are consequences with her choice, especially as a spirit….
This was delayed because as I drew it, I belatedly realized I needed to brush up on the Korra timeline again, but instead of watching the show I browsed all 4 art books to study the ‘feel’ of 70 years post-war era. You’re welcome. It was an interesting read at least. Some nuggets of info I didn’t realize tying the series together, like: the desert in ‘Zuko Alone’ episode as Zuko rode his ostritch-horse across is the same desert that the first Avatar Wan died in battle on in his senior years.
