Funny story behind this one...Mom had me hurry outside with a camera, because she had seen a huge exotic moth in the backyard with leaf-like wings. She didn't get a close look at it because she was afraid of scaring it away.
I went out with my camera, and told Mom, "There's two of them--and they're doing it."
So, what Mom thought was one enormous moth with elaborate wings was actually two large moths mating.
Unfortunately, my field guides are packed up so I can't tell you what kinda moth those are. :< It's interesting how different the two genders look.

Oh cool! These are so hard to find singly, never mind mating! I guess I've only ever seen females...didn't realize the males were lighter yellow (I assume that's the male)

Now there's a kodak moment.
Interesting moths though. I really wonder what kind they are.

Read the other comments, one guy said they're Imperial moths.

I love these moths! I used to know what they are, but I don't have my field guide with me.
