Mode: Collector's
Rank/Occupation: Companion to Poika
Species: Familiar
Element: Earth (Plants)
Height: 12’ at the shoulder
Age: Unknown
Date of Birth: Unknown
Gender: Genderless (they/them or she/her)
Magic: Familiar (Earth - Plants)
Location: Padwell
PERSONAL INFORMATIONPersonality:
+ [ Precise ] All movements are accurate and calculated. It is necessary, after all, for one as large as Tyyni to be careful to avoid accidentally hurting someone else.
+ [ Loyal ] Once she’s become friends with an individual, she will remain with them and do what they can to protect them. It is only broken if they do something that Tyyni finds abhorrent.
+ [ Compassionate ] Despite her sometimes odd behaviour and difficulty expressing herself, she always comes off as warm.
= [ Unaggressive ] Will defend herself and her bonded when needed, but prefers not to engage in combat. Does not kill unless there is no alternative. Her preferred course of action is to simply sit on an aggressor until they give up.
= [ Noncompetitive ] Goes entirely at her own pace and cares little for how she compares to others.
= [ Quiet ] Prefers to observe and rarely makes a sound.
- [ Vague ] Bad at communication; does not speak with words and even her bonded only receives images and emotions from her rather than fully-formed thoughts. Whether or not this will change in time is uncertain.
- [ Bizarre ] Lacks an understanding for society, human or dragon, as a whole. Politics and other things puzzle her, and sometimes she behaves in ways that are difficult to comprehend. Emotions are more her thing.
- [ Shy ] Despite her great size, she is rather reserved around strangers and prefers not to be the center of attention. Likes to remain in token form when feeling particularly shy.
History:
By the nature of Tyyni’s personality, her memories are confusing and vague for her companion, Poika, to piece together. Local legends in Padwell paint a far more firm image of her past than her own recollection of it does.
Known by many as the “Marsh-Dweller” and the “Watcher” Tyyni has wandered the marshes of Padwell since before the conquest. Sightings of her immense form snaking through the trees and the water were not uncommon in towns in the deeper parts of the wetlands. She neither showed aggression or much interest in most people, although would intervene to protect humans, dragons and animals.
The only exception to this was any armoured knights who crossed her path; Tyyni would emerge from the water like a vengeful spirit and chase them from the marshes. She would never kill them, but she would make certain they left Padwell.
Theories regarding why she behaved this way ranged from simply not liking the look of knights - after all, perhaps she could sense they were bad news just by seeing them - or that she was bonded to someone who was killed by knights in a time of Padwell’s history now lost. Tyyni is incapable of confirming any of this, of course, as memories from that long ago are vague or nonexistent.
Her recent history, however, is far more defined. On an early winter’s morning in 486 A.E.D, she watched from below the water as someone dropped an infant into the marsh. Tyyni had been on the outskirts of Maddox, closer to civilization than she’d gone in decades, but had not intended to linger.
She grabbed the child in her mouth and lifted them up and out of the water. Tyyni could provide no warmth, though, and the child would not stop crying. So she reached out with her thoughts to comfort them and felt the child return her efforts. After that, she kept them quiet with memories of sunny days, of pretty dragonflies and the strange things she’d witnessed in the marshes, and slowly made her way towards the edge of the city.
Before she could come within sight, another human appeared, a man with softly glowing green eyes. He was startled at first, staring up at her, but she lowered her head down and opened her jaws so he could see the child she was carrying.
After a moment of hesitation, the man took the infant from her and thanked her. She watched them go, holding on to the fragile, shimmering bond for a few moments and considered severing it. The child started crying again, and Tyyni retreated back into the wilderness, an uncertain feeling hanging over her, and decided to leave the bond be for now.
In the years that followed, the Familiar decided to linger near the city. She never made her presence known and held her thoughts apart from his, safe for when she sensed he was in need of comfort, but kept a watchful eye over the people there - specifically the now-growing child that she had saved. She shadowed the boy when he moved away from Maddox, remaining instead at the outskirts of Redwing City, and returned with him five years ago.
Only recently have they come into true contact again, when the now seventeen-year-old child, Poika, wandered out into the marshes at night in early December 503 A.E.D. He was angry and disappointed that his cousins and father figure, Toivo Aalto, had left him behind while travelling to Fallingstar to aid the city’s defenders against increased pressure from knights. Seeing the young human alone again, she decided that it was time to reveal herself.
When asked for her name, Tyyni had no reply to make; she neither spoke nor was capable of remembering one. Poika, being Poika, decided to call her ‘Tyyni’ both for its accuracy to her personality and the fact that it sounded like tiny, even though the Familiar is massive.
The two snuck along with a shipment of supplies bound for Fallingstar and arrived in the city a few days after the others. Tyyni was initially too shy to reveal herself and remained in token form for much of the siege, only revealing herself when her full strength was needed in battle.
After the battle of Fallingstar ended, she and Poika returned to Padwell for the following two years. Poika completed his training as a junior Redwing and graduated into the canal guard. The pair have recently earned
Since the end of the fighting there, she and Poika returned to Padwell, where they continue their training in the Redwings.
RELATIONSHIPSPoika: Tyyni and Poika are still figuring out their bond and relationship with each other. Tyyni remembers the night twenty years ago when they first met very clearly, although an infant and a twenty-year-old are two very different things.
EXTRARumours/Reputation: The “Marsh Dweller” or the “Watcher”. Rumoured to have once been bonded to a pre-Conquest ruler of Padwell, and now the illegitimate son of Prince Percy Padwell.
Extra notes:
- Trinket form is an arrow. Can either match Tyyni’s typical colours or be camouflaged to blend in with the rest of Poika’s arrows.
- Stands at about 12’ at the shoulder.
- Does not speak. Whether she is incapable of it or unwilling is unknown.
