I was driving past in the car and saw this adorable little kitten in the care of some Africans. It must only be a couple of weeks old.His/her mother? Dead. I asked what happened to her. The Africans hunted her down for food after she gave birth so you can only imagine what this little ones future holds.

For those of you saying I should have saved the kitten, I wish I could have! But there's one thing I've learnt out here and that is that you can't save them all. There's hundreds of stray, starving dogs hanging around, some even puppies. There is literally nowhere to take them.. no dog homes, no shelters, nothing like that. The people here can barely feed themselves and their family so I'm sure if you were in that position you'd find whatever food you could to survive.
No one is more sad about this than I am; I see this EVERY DAY but it's just the way this country is for now.
I'm leaving the country soon so what would I do with the kitten? Give it to another African? Because I can't take it with me. The same as if I picked up every starving dog... There's only 2 vets in the town which refuse to take in strays because of their fear of rabies. It's very sad, I know. It's taken me a while to realise they're not doing it to be cruel, they're doing it to live.

I favourited this photo because of how beautiful it is, though I'd hate to think it looks like I like the story. I don't. Though I understand their point... not be been read as mean: what's the differance in this little kitten and a cow, sheep, and pig etc... Rabbits are eaten in this country, by the sounds of your story they're not doing it to be cruel, they are looking after it, it could possible have a nicer life than the animals other countries eat.
I happen not to eat meat, I'm vegan, though I accept and understand others eat animals. I just choose not to, because I have a choice in what I can and cannot eat... unlike others in our world.
It's a sad story, the kitten is beautiful, and my heart goes out for you to have to see this in person and having the chance to do something about it... but can't. That takes strength. We're seeing pictures and reading the stories...

That Is So Sad, I Have A Cat And Her Mother Died A Long Time Ago, The Previous Owner Found Lizzy As A Stray And I Saw A Black Cat On The Road So Cried And Begged My Mum For A Kitten And Since Then Lizzy (My cat) Is Now Under The Good Care Of Me.

It breaks my heart. It is a beautiful picture, but I do kinda hate being reminded I can't save every suffering animal or person I see. And though I often prefer animals to people, I really don't believe you should pick one over the other. My dad said "You can save whatever animal you want, but don't step over a starving homeless man to do it." I may be interpreting it differently than he meant, but I believe in just doing what you can when you can.

I feel sorry for the Kitty. but it kinda bothers me that some people are showing more sympathy/concern for the kitty than for the starving people of Africa.

She has a point. She clearly stated that they did it to survive, so the only barbarism is what you interpreted. And while not every country in the continent is in such deep poverty, a lot of them are. It doesn't change the fact that they're still African. People call me American, is it necessary to throw out that it's North America or which state I live in? The world is what it is, sad but true.

okay lets put it this way. most of the world eats chicken because it's just the thing to eat. africa eats cats.. they see them as chicken... aka it's just something you eat and don't have a second thought about.
and you didn't answer my question. what makes this cat any more special than the starving dogs and puppies around? should i be finding them a nice loving home too? i'm sure if people wanted dogs they would pick them up off the street but no one does.

Don't bring up Chinese every time a dog or cat being eaten, it's racism! And if you're in that position, starving all the time, "eating healthy" is the last thing you care about.
I feel bad about that cat as well, but I understand how things much be very hard there. People are starving, which is very difficult for some people to even imagine. I'm sure the only time you starve is the time you're on a diet. so get off your high horse and get real.

To be honest I'm actually Asian, but I'm not saying that all Chinese eat them, but they do get disease from them. I'm sorry if that defends people. And when I was typing I was out of time explaining more other race eat them too. But I under stand why African eat them. But people who aren't starving to death like people who eat cats, it's unnesscarily to eat dogs or kittens. This is my opinion!

I feel so sorry for the cat. I wish those poor, starving people had good food to eat and then they wouldn't have to eat the kitten.
