Cats and campgrounds seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly! This beautiful little kitty
Our daughter Lindsay had no trouble coaxing the sweet kitty over for a hug and a pet
My sweet hubby Bob =TThealer called the campground office to see if the kitty belonged to someone (or had been dumped

Just an update:
We respelled her Mikayla, to avoid confusion when reading her name.
She had her first vet visit today, and was spayed. Turns out, part of the extra friendly disposition might be the fact that she was in heat! So it's doubly lucky that we found her, given that she's estimated to be about 6 months old. (eek - unwanted teen pregnancy! )
She was otherwise healthy, and is now on Purina One kitten food, and was already litterbox trained when we picked her up.
Flip's mom is going to get her an indoor home thru the animal fostering organization she works with, since she makes Flip itch and I start sneezing after handling her for any length of time. :/ Besides, my house isn't cat-proof, and she deserves to be an indoor cat.
We also managed to catch the male cat who's made friends with Mo, the one we dubbed "Baron", and he went to the vet too. He got fixed, and Flip's mom sprung for a microchip, so when we turn him loose again animal control will have to call if they pick him up. We're currently undecided about whether he's going to be turned loose over hear or at mom's place. With his inter-cat social skills, he might do well with Mom's outdoor cats, and his sweet purrsonality has been winning mom over... We'll decide in a few days as he heals up.
We also may be getting a 1 yr old outdoor Siamese male, "Blue Eyes", from the foster program, since Mo has been able to make friends with Baron. We'll be meeting him on Saturday, hopefully.

Hello Mikala *pets* It's good that you found such great and caring people
They will take care of you until another people cames who will give you a home. Until then...shred thier socks, shed on black clothes, sleep all day and demand attention!

Cats are cute.
My uncle uses traps, because they have some wild cats that have kittens, but he doesn't have them put down, he trains them to be basic housecats, and he sells them for $5. He even goes to surrounding cities and gives them out of the back of his truck!

That's awesome that he gives them good homes! This little sweetheart has definitely been an inside kitty and won't even need any training to be a great companion
She wasn't afraid to get into the car with Lindsay... and infact, she looked into our motorhome like she wanted to get in
so I think someone in a motorhome had left her at the campground

Aww, that's sad.
Oh, my dad has this dog named Pepper, who's a pit bull/lab mix, but she's really nice, and social, and doesn't bite people ever. She always comes up to me and will kiss me randomly. Anyway, we got her from the pound, and they said they found her wandering around, abandoned. She's awesome!
I guess it goes to show that strays are more loving than those $1000 purebred things at those fancy pet stores.

yes, I think there should be a special "hell" for folks who just dump an animal... and we've always found it amazing just how many dumped out kitties appear in campgrounds

kayaksailor In reply to LadyAliceofOz [2010-08-03 20:16:48 +0000 UTC]
I agree on the hell!
I think they show up because 'campers' aren't the most scrupulous food preparers or cleaners-up-after so there's plenty of pickings...and there's always a few good hearted souls who look after them

LadyAliceofOz In reply to kayaksailor [2010-08-03 20:40:07 +0000 UTC]
actually, these days in the campgrounds where we stay... most folks prepare all meals indoors in their motorhomes, drag behinds, or fifth wheel trailers... and so the animals outdoors don't have any pickings to speak of
...part of the reason that poor Mikala was having to go door-to-door, trying to beg a hand-out
