Actually, genetics was one of the areas in high school biology that piqued my interest, although I never pursued it further. But one thing I did retain was which basic traits (eye color, hair color, the ability to roll your tongue, etc.) were dominant and which were recessive. Brown eyes are dominant. Blue eyes are recessive. There are various genes that determine how strongly brown eyes are expressed, which is why a Bb (Brown, blue) person can have eyes ranging from hazel to chocolate. But to get blue eyes (that stay blue beyond the first few weeks after birth), you MUST inherit two recessive traits. All blue eyed people and mammals are homozygous recessive (bb). Since Magnum and his wife both have blue eyes, that means they only have recessive blue eye traits to offer their children. Sweetie Belle is clearly heterozygous (Bb), which is necessary to produce green eyes.
