I finally had time to finish this one It also reveals another one of my ships, Volga and Cia from Hyrule Warriors. I know it seems a little out of the blue, but after playing Cia's story, these two somehow started to grow on me :3
I'll try to explain (without going into too many details, because I could write a whole book about that)...

In Cia's story we find out, that Volga never wanted to join Cia's army. She casted a spell which forced him to obey her. So far so good, now to enter headcanon-territory. At the beginning Volga hated the sorceress and she didn't really care. But after some time in which they had to work together a lot, they got to know each other better. Cia started to rely more on the dragon knight (since everybody knew that Wizzro would betray her whenever he had the chance to) and Volga noticed that she wasn't all that bad. Sometimes she even seemed quite nice just to drastically change again (that's because she was possessed by Ganondorf). She began to make more and more reckless decisions and cast spells that endangered her own life (also because of Ganondorf, even after he left her body, it appears that he left some serious damage in her mind). So long story short: without noticing or really understanding why, Volga started to feel responsible for her and care about her.

This picture happens at the end of chapter... 12 (I think?). The one where the Hyrulean army fights against Cia in the Temple of Souls and Cia summons the Dark Links. At the end of the chapter Ganondorf appears on the stage, and Zelda is like "Omg, he's too strong, we have to retreat!" and Cia's like "No way, I don't care if he kills us all I want my Link! " but then she says something about being tired and leaves the battlefield. So my headcanon is that she looses consciousness because of using too much magic (because I don't think she would leave otherwise) and Volga comes to the rescue.
But why Volga? He didn't even participate in the battle (he wasn't there just the Dark Link's and maybe Wizzro but I'm not quite sure). My theory is, that with Cia getting weaker also her spell looses strength (you can see that in the next chapter, where Wizzro betrays her even though he shouldn't be able to, if the spell from the beginning was still active). So I think Volga was able to free himself from the spell, wanted to leave Cia and go back to the Eldin caves. When Zelda and her army attacked, he watched from a distance and everything looked all right (the Dark Links seemed pretty strong so Cia would be fine), but when Ganondorf appeared the situation changed. Of course Cia didn't want to retreat and of course she pushed herself so far that she lost consciousness. Volga knew that Ganondorf would be furious if he found Cia (she tried to seal him away after all), and he couldn't bring himself to leave her there. So he turned around and flew away with her.

Also in the background you can see Zelda fighting with Ganondorf. At least that's what it's supposed to be but the background looks horrible, so please try to ignore it And sorry for this giant block of text. I tried to make a short summary but it's still quite long...
