Description

After all this years and many arguments read I still don’t get why Janeway and Chakotay couldn’t be together in the end. For me it was one of the saddest love stories ever on  a TV series… the love that never was, never could be.

H

Very nice! Thi is one of my favorite fanfiction pairings along with Sulu/Rand, Riker/Troi Bashir/Dax and Mayweather and Sato from Enterprise. Do you think you could do a couple of romantic drawings of Travis and Hoshi? Thanks!

In the Voyager relaunch novels by Kirsten Beyer, they do become a couple.

I firmly believe that sexism is the reason why. Kate Mulgrew told the writers that if they put them together, the male audience wouldn't take Janeway seriously. Which is a damn shame.

I agree. Janeway was a role model for many young women at the time and when I look back the message the show gave me was “Yes, you can be a woman and be in charge but you have to resign to everything else” – She wasn’t allowed to have a life, a personal life. For me it was sad they show the need she had with a personal relationship and all she could to was to date hollo characters – and after that, for me, the writers and all who defended that in order to be respected she couldn’t have a personal life, failed miserably. AT least they could have fix it in the end and didn’t. Really, I’ll never get it.

Within the series, Janeway probably felt that- in her position- she couldn't let her guard down with any one. Actually, she was probably the most isolated captain Star Trek ever had. Behind the scenes, the studio didn't want an on-going relationship. That meant the series would have to be syndicated in the order shown- something studios don't like. Most of them still cling to the idea that a local station should be able to slap any episode on the air in any order and not worry about it- viewers be damned. One of the few- very few- times I've seen this ignored- defied in fact- was with Babylon 5- which was designed as a five season "Novel". The characters grew and changed so much during the course of that show, it has to be shown in order for it to make sense.

But look how late in the series it was. She didn't have the baby till the final episode. You can bet they had some kind of discussion with the studio wether they'd be allowed to do it or not.

They could, at least, made a mini-series after and fix all - They got home, then what? What happens to the characters? I like all of them but lets face that the Chakotay/Seven romance came out of the blue not to mention  those ridiculous holo-romances Janeway had... I can't pass over it, really, it makes me angry till this day. Thanks for the comment

I've got a very strong feeling that was done specifically to prevent and stop any notion of a Chakotay/ Janeway relationship.
