I can't see Bilbo and Thorin as a couple, but I think this thought is really sweet.

nope, he died and will die in the movie I think: that's them meeting again in the afterlife.
(Bilbo going to Valinor didn't make him gain the immortality of elves, he was granted access there just as a gift, to die there... so I suppose they may meet again once they are both dead, considering Tolkien describes afterlife like "a far green country" so a place where souls keep on living.

Oh! So you mean they are meeting in like the Halls of Mandos then? Because I read that Men go to the Halls of Mandos briefly and go beyond the world, and since Hobbits are an offshoot of Men, they would likely have the same afterlife. I also read that it is possible that Aule made halls for dwarf souls.

yep, exactly! the afterlife in tolkien is not really set much clearly so I can allow myself to play around with it a bit
