Description I finished all of the turnarounds of my Galactic Patrol characters for my portfolio, and I've been going back and coloring the first character in each sequence so people can get a better idea of the character.

Sgt. Jason North used to be an active Officer in the Galactic Patrol (basically space cops) before an undercover assignment went south and cost some of the lives of those under his watch.  Now he works at The Core, a space station that is the GP academy, as a training sergeant.  He's...not the nicest person and has become a lot more bitter since the aforementioned incident.  The GP uniforms were originally black but I realized that would make the cops look like bad guys, so they've been changed to a light grey with black piping and the red Galactic Patrol insignia patches on the shoulders.  I also made the uniform look a little more bulkier so that the cops have more protection (original versions looked like spandex suits which would not offer the best protection in a fight with futuristic weapons, cyborgs, and aliens).

I'll be adding turnaround sheets to my commission list since there's been some interest!  They're also a good way to get to know your character...and what the back of their outfit looks like.

Oh cool! What an awesome space suit. That's got to be tough on him losing some of his men under his watch, most defiantly didn't help his moody personality.

Thank you!  He used to be a little more cheerful and friendly, now he's just Grumpy Sergeant at all times.   Rookies who misbehave scatter in his presence!

Oh my, poor guy. Those misbehaving rookies better scatter or they will get what for!

His face is all business XD I love it! These studies always amaze me- the consistancy and flow is great! They're a lot harder than they look to pull off.><;;;

I do like the color scheme too o:

lol We've had Good Cop and Bad Cop, and now introducing Grumpy Cop!

Thank you!  I may have been subconsciously influenced by Star Wars clone trooper armor for the color scheme.   Being a huge animation nerd, I've studied up on turnarounds and always wanted to do one.  I...sorta wish we had gone over character design stuff like this in my animation program...OH WELL.

And now I imagined him with Grumpy Cat's face somewhere on his armor as a personal sigil. I refuse to let go of this headcanon. XD

Grumpy cop is needed okay >>; It's a rough job and you deal with people all day. Bad people. Sometimes stupid bad people. XD

Hey it's okay << White amor tends to be in a lot of media so it's not a bad thing XD Hunger Games had the peace keepers with their white body armor too. It's a good look. ;3 Gotta look good on the job.

You think they would! XD; Sometimes classes don't make sense.

Either that or he just wears a Grumpy Cat t-shirt under his uniform.   It was gifted to him by his training unit as a joke and he just shrugged and accepted it.  It matches the Grumpy Cat mug they gave him a year ago. lol

And rookies who think they don't need an authority figure!

It works for both good guys and bad guys equally well (though it seems like it's been used for more bad guys ).  I'm just wondering how they clean up afterwards *dips all that white armor in bleach overnight to make it look pristine for the next day on the job*

The program I was in was using outdated curriculum so that's what I was stuck with ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

LOL XDDD I love it. He needs the slippers to match.

Darn those rookies- they are the worst XD He's stuck with them.

It does >> And it does make you wonder. XD I'm actually reading a book series that has the bad guys in white- but they take pride in the red blood stains they obtain >_> They're eventually known for the edges of their cloaks being red from walking through...carnage. Kind of creepy but it works!

Gotta love it. XD; I took a computer programing class that used a program designed specifically for the course and had no real-world application. I don't know WHY that program existed or why the class existed other than to be that last silly credit needed for an AAOT. c_x;

Oh, man!  That would be way more intimidating than them just wearing stark white armor!   But wouldn't it get to look a little pink over time...? xD

That makes no sense!  It's sort of like how we used a cheap(ish), not-industry-based program for editing in my high school video arts class...but that was high school.  Having to scramble for credits to graduate (or filling up your quota for the semester) was one of the most annoying things. >__<

Pink or brown since it's close to the ground...  The author is pretty gritty so he includes nice little details like that. Somtimes it's a bit much XD

I really hate the credit grind. c_x "Okay I need a pe class...um...Yoga or dance. I guess I can find a happy place while twisting- oh here she goes with the little eastern prayers nopenopenopenope I am not my own goddess nopenope."

Honestly, the school system needs a revamp XD; Why on EARTH do I need to know Medieval French poetry if I'm going into real estate!?

I just took a running class one semester because I did cross country in high school and figured it would be a pretty good way to get exercise on Mondays and Wednesdays!   Unfortunately, Chapel was on those days and started ten minutes after the class ended so I had to scramble to shower and get there on time!

LOL I think they should bring back trade schools where you just take classes that you NEED for your degree/job and not silly ones for GE. >.<

Tigryph In reply to LadyPep [2018-04-01 04:29:23 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah XD I took a running class one semester but I needed like those pesky 1 point classes every term and it was always yoga. The other activities filled up so fast c_x; I was too focused trying to book the core classes like biology and the labs at the right times. ><; I hate college.

Ohmantheshowers. c_x; I was so paranoid about germs I made sure my PE class was at the end of the day so I could nope on home and shower in my bleach infested living space. XD

Exactly. c_x; The school system's designed to bleed you dry.

LadyPep In reply to Tigryph [2018-04-02 16:50:00 +0000 UTC]

Exactly!  Figure Drawing always filled up really fast and I was able to get in because the professor was really nice and didn't mind having a huge class even after it was technically full. ^__^  That happened to me with a math class I had to take in junior college, so I went one semester a class short and took an Adobe Illustrator one instead, which was actually helpful! lol

We didn't have locker room showers by the track we ran on so I HAD to run to my dormpartment and shower (and hope my sister wasn't occupying it) unless I wanted to be a sweaty mess!

That's awesome ;; I actually made an enemy of my figure drawing teacher. XD She frequently said she didn't like that she could see my style in my work and was personally offended that I would...leave out nasty bits. I told her I didn't feel comfortable drawing certain....things so I would leave it blank or pretend a sheet flew by LOL She flunked me the first year and passed me with a C the second time I took it...then used my work as examples (which I learned several years later...). I still want to storm in there and flip tables over that ><;;;

Ooh! I wish I could learn illustrator ;;

Oh man XD I can't imagine the shuffle for that day. ;-;

LadyPep In reply to Tigryph [2018-04-19 15:18:46 +0000 UTC]

Oh geez!  That's horrible! D:  Honestly, I'd probably do the same thing if I had to draw nude models...  I was fortunate that our prof had the models wear swimsuits (one of the few perks about that college lol), but I kept psyching myself up before the first session to get ready to draw naked people because her syllabus said we'd be drawing them in the nude.  I later found out she teaches at some other colleges where the models are naked and she just uses the same syllabus for all her classes.

It's tricky at first because it has a lot of similarities to Photoshop, but then it's not the same! >.<  You have to forget all you learned about layers and rely on masking and other vector-type tools...

I found out halfway through the semester that I didn't have enough units to make me a full time student so all that time I didn't have to go to chapel!   They even sent me an email that basically said "please stop coming, this is only for full time students and you're wasting our chapel cards" xD

It was...very uncomfortable. XD; There's parts of the anatomy best...not seen.
You're lucky! ;; I'm glad that you were able to avoid that particular bullet. XD

Oh man I would die XD I'm such a creature of habit. I don't know what I'm going to do when my poor old pc dies and I have to upgrade out of CS3... I need to put some cash aside for that sad day.

Oh no >< BUT CHAPEL IS GOOD. I hope. >>; I guess it depends on the school.

LadyPep In reply to Tigryph [2018-04-23 18:00:37 +0000 UTC]

The newer versions of Photoshop are still pretty intuitive, they just like moving tools around and "streamlining" things so they can slap a number on it and say it's new! lol

Weeell the chapels at the college I went to were more like feel good rock concerts; they didn't have a whole lot of meaningful content...

Not to mention adding a few hundred dollars to the price tag! I'm going to die a little when my computer finally dies. >8 :sigh: I hope it chugs along for a few more years! Though I'm kind of sad I can't ever livestream anything xD No software works with Windows 7 anymore.

Oh sad >8 ...and I'm that person that doesn't sing in Church. Alone in my car? Yes- worship songs all day. At church? I stand there and hope no one wants a hug.

YEP.   My Mac desktop (which I used for EVERYTHING) was working perfectly fine until a year or two ago when it would just turn itself on whenever it liked and began acting like a slug.  I was already using a Surface around that time though so the transition was easier than expected. xP

I try to sing softly in church, but if it's a song I really like (usually hymns) then I'll belt it out and don't care who hears me!

Oh no... my laptop is randomly turning off for no reason and rebooting itself. c_x I have no clue what it's doing. It's an HD and I bought it like three years ago. I hate it. ><;;;

XDD! That's awesome! I just can't decide to sing high or low. ><;;;;

LadyPep In reply to Tigryph [2018-05-04 18:53:01 +0000 UTC]

Or it could be updates!  I have all PCs now and they do that when they're updating (I really ought to look into fixing the automatic updates though since it gets a little annoying...)

Tigryph In reply to LadyPep [2018-05-15 04:45:02 +0000 UTC]

Oh man yeah the updates are killer. c_x; I don't know when or why... I also hate the updates that take four hours to do.

LadyPep In reply to Tigryph [2018-05-15 18:31:09 +0000 UTC]

Generally they only take a few minutes, but if I ignore them for weeks I have to let it sit and update for a couple of hours too... 3X

Thank you!  I had some old concepts lying around that I borrowed from for his uniform, it was just coming up with the back and keeping it consistent with the front that was the hardest part!

stramberrymilkyway In reply to LadyPep [2018-02-28 21:33:40 +0000 UTC]

Well, i'm impressed. XD my character designs are really simplistic. I don't know how to design something that complicated.

Rebel-Rider [2018-02-28 01:20:23 +0000 UTC]

Neat.
I should do something like that for my own characters. I hate designing outfits.

LadyPep In reply to Rebel-Rider [2018-03-01 02:35:54 +0000 UTC]

I used to dread designing outfits until I got my hands on those Art of books for the Star Wars prequels and fell in love with Iain McCaig's work enough to try my hand at some clothing designs.

LeviaStar237 [2018-02-27 23:49:34 +0000 UTC]

Wow! I don't know how you can draw a character that detailed and essentially "turn" them! XD That's amazing! <3 <3 <3

LadyPep In reply to LeviaStar237 [2018-02-28 19:22:32 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!   It's a good exercise for visualizing your character three-dimensionally--the hardest part is keeping them in the same pose when you turn them!

LeviaStar237 In reply to LadyPep [2018-02-28 23:51:21 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome!
For me it's keeping the character's details visually consistent. XD But yes, that's what practice is for.

Oh cool! I like the suite you gave him. He's also got that cool hero hair going for him too. (Wish I could get mine to do that)
Is Galactic Patrol the one that had this character in it? Leopard

Oh turnaround commissions! That would be interesting.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LadyPep In reply to AlexVanArsdale [2018-02-28 19:21:19 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!  Haha!  It can only be achieved with futuristic hair products!

Leopard is from the old superhero comic idea my sister and I were working on in high school called the Titans , while Galactic Patrol is set in an entirely different universe.  I should probably post more about it since what I have in my gallery relating to GP is so sparse!

Ah ok. She seemed like she was a pretty cool character. What kind of aliens do you plan on having in Galactic Patrol?

LadyPep In reply to AlexVanArsdale [2018-03-01 01:59:51 +0000 UTC]

...Unless you have a time machine!

We decided to revamp the comic, but we won't be working on it until much later on.  Still, I might include her in something else since I still love her character design.

I've got a whole lot, but the main types of species are the Heraysins, Merusii, Akasta, Kiv'va, Noraens, Nictr, and Fellecumii.  I've got a few pictures of each different species on my tumblr if you want to check them out!
