Description
Before he makes his big appearance several pages from now, I decided to redesign Juralek. I changed him from a black draft-type breed ( [link] ) to a grullo Andalusian because it just didn't make any sense with him being related to Tarrek and the both of them looking nothing like each other (build-wise). I also thought that the "evil black horse" thing was too cliche, so I changed his color into something more interesting. I'm working on a full-body pic, just need to find the right pose.JuralekΒ©~Capella336

Yay! A grullo!! That's one of my favorite horse colors.
Juralek's new designs look great! And you handle cartoon horse expressions like a pro. Keep up the great work! I look forward to seeing him in the comic.

I'm still working on that--he wasn't cooperating with me a few days ago when I tried to get a full-body pose...

No problem. I liked his previous looks, but his new looks make him look more...evil. Not sure why, but they do. It looks great!
Thats alright, every now and then something has to, unfortunatly, not cooperate...right?

Same here! Did you read what I did with my comic cover? I deleted it! Ha!
However, I really like how I'm doing the remake cover! It looks really neat, with lots of detail!

LadyPep In reply to Favorite-Equine [2011-08-02 17:43:43 +0000 UTC]
Yeah...I went through several ideas before finally getting the cover I liked for 'Untamed'. I'm going to be redoing it too, to fit the new format/style better.
That's good! Any idea on when it will be up?

Favorite-Equine In reply to LadyPep [2011-08-02 21:03:51 +0000 UTC]
But what is weird is that I worked so hard on the first idea I had, liked it for a split second...then deleted it a few days afterward.
You're going to redo the comic cover?! Well, can I have your old one! Hehe
Uhm...Not sure off hand. I still have a lot of coloring to do...as well as a lot of smaller details. I' was hoping for sometime this week, but I'm not seeing that to be a possibility anymore - my week has been filling up quite fast.
I'll let you know (again) when it's almost done...then maybe I could let you preview it so I could get some pointers.

I don't usually delete things right away; you can always go back and tweak some stuff around to make it look good. We'll see...
Okay! Great!

Yeah, I probably shouldnt have deleted the file to begin with...but it made me so mad! *huffs* Even thinking about it is making me sorta upset...oh well. Moving on to better things.
Haha, alright. Maybe not the entire cover - but maybe the lines...cause I wont know what to do with the cover since your character is on it!
Cant wait to show you what I've come up with!!
Not sure if you're interested in another design character - but I've got some design adoptables in my gallery now. If you want, or are interested, you should go take a peak...

LadyPep In reply to Favorite-Equine [2011-08-04 17:51:36 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I sometimes do that too. Either that, or I leave the file alone for several months then come back to it after I've steamed off.
I referenced the lines from 'Mustangs, Wild Horses of the West' by Marie-Luce Hubert and Jean-Louis Klein, which have awesome pics, btw.
I took a look--those are some great designs you got there!

Favorite-Equine In reply to LadyPep [2011-08-04 17:55:58 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that probably would have been a better idea - to leave it alone for a while. But, oh well. Cant go back and undo what I did. Oh well.
Yeah, I probably should go find horse books to reference from...may be a little easier. However, I dispise my freehand drawings more than the digital - so we're just not going to go down that path. Lol
Thanks! I didnt realize how much fun Design Adopts were...I've come up with a few new characters myself, because I fell in love with them! I'm so happy with them!

LadyPep In reply to Favorite-Equine [2011-08-05 19:04:53 +0000 UTC]
I used to pitch my old work and now I'm regretting it, partially because I like to go back and see how far I've progressed, and partially because I like to laugh at how awful I drew back then.
Suit yourself!
Haha! That's why I don't make those--I'd end up keeping all the designs and turning them into new charries!

Favorite-Equine In reply to LadyPep [2011-08-05 21:14:14 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, once I found GIMP program online and downloaded it I didnt really do much freehand stuff after that...and before I ended up killing a lot of trees I'm sure!
Yeah, but sometimes it does get my mind off certain things...when I'm frustrated and such. But right now I need to come up with a new look for Cloud. For some reason his looks arent as great looking as I first thought...
Any ideas?
π: 0 β©: 1
LadyPep In reply to Favorite-Equine [2011-08-07 22:55:55 +0000 UTC]
I try to balance between the two: I usually sketch out my drawings freehand then scan them in to go over them digitally. And I can bet you I killed a whole lot of innocent trees too!
Hmmm, are you looking for a new coat pattern or a new breed type?
π: 0 β©: 1
Favorite-Equine In reply to LadyPep [2011-08-08 01:26:59 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I probably should try to balance the two out too; to try to become better at freehanding. However, that only ends up with a lot of trash to be taken out!
Well, I was just looking for a new coat pattern. Never really thought about changing his breed...however he's supposed to be a wild horse. Hm...could draft types be wild?
Not really looking to create a sob story, about how he escaped from humans...so that's why i'm wondering if a draft type could already be wild...?
π: 0 β©: 1
LadyPep In reply to Favorite-Equine [2011-08-09 04:21:49 +0000 UTC]
Well, its certainly worth it in the end--might I suggest getting some spiral-bound notebooks if you are going to start freehanding again; they work the best when drawing anatomy because of all the lines that can be used for proportions and such.
Truthfully, I don't really know. One of my friends had a draft breed in her herd in her story, and Juralek used to be a Shire, so I guess it could work to some extent. Do you have a ref sheet/info/bio up on him that I could take a look-see at?
π: 0 β©: 1
Favorite-Equine In reply to LadyPep [2011-08-09 17:29:56 +0000 UTC]
Alright, that sounds like a good idea. What about graph paper?? Do you think that would be better??
Yeah, that's what makes this part so difficult. Yeah, I saw that Juralek used to be a draft - however I didnt see the connection between him and his brother.
No, I dont have a new referance sheet up yet..still trying to figure out what color I want him to be. His old sheet is up though, the one Chololate Palomino...yeah that was his old looks. However I think he looks a little to girlish with his colors. I'm trying to find more of a manly color for him, but yet want him to stand out, because he's the main character. Just dont know what color I want him yet. I've narrowed it down to 21 different shades of colors though, so I"m making progress. lol.
π: 0 β©: 1
LadyPep In reply to Favorite-Equine [2011-08-12 00:18:19 +0000 UTC]
Hmmm, I've never used graph paper to draw on before, but you could try it out if that suites you better.
After a while, I didn't either. That's one of the main reasons I changed him--the other, is that it's much easier to shade and highlight a gray horse as opposed to a black horse. XP
Ah, yes. I have been in your position many, many times. Have you checked out this yet?:[link]
It was very helpful to me when coming up with Juralek and Raven's new colors!
π: 0 β©: 1
Favorite-Equine In reply to LadyPep [2011-08-12 00:36:42 +0000 UTC]
I think I may give graph paper a try, once I can make a trip into town. I was just thinking that the squares would help even better with getting proportions even more accurate...or at least i hope it does.
I agree, it is much easier to highlight and shade a lighter colored horse than a dark colored horse. Which was one of the reasons I didnt really like his Chololate Palomino Coloring. It was too dark in contrast to the rest of the page. Now that I may decide to make him more draftlike, I'll get to start....all over....again. Argh!
No, I've actually never seen that before. So many colors and choices! I really like the quailties that the Silver Dapple Bay gives. It has the darker/ish coat with the lighter mane and tail I first went with. But then I also like the Bay Leopard too. I actually have seen a wild horse that color, it was pretty!!
How did this sheet help you in picking your colors for Juralek and Raven? Sorry, just curious...
π: 0 β©: 1
LadyPep In reply to Favorite-Equine [2011-08-15 13:28:27 +0000 UTC]
Yikes! I feel your pain! Lots of my pages have been remade before they make it to being posted up here.
That's cool!
Well, like I said before, I wanted a less-darker color for Juralek, so I found something that worked with him more (grullo used to be one of his old designs too ). And for Raven, I wanted something close to her brother's colors, so I decided to use either rose gray or steel gray for when she's younger, and she'll lighten to a light grey when she gets older.

Yeah, this cover and my main character's design is really killing my interest in actually starting the comic. Quite frustrating...
Yeah, the Wild Leopard horse was on a tv series I enjoy watching: "Heartland" Great series!
Yeah, I'm starting to think that I would like my characters better...if somebody else would make them for me. So, any chance you'd be interested in the little project? Lol

You have no idea. Well, maybe you do. I'm about at that stage where I pull my hair out...just to give you an idea. Haha!
It is a really awesome series. It starts showing again in September, however to get caught up on the entire series I watch it on YouTube - no commercials that way! The only drawback is that the show doesnt appear on YouTube for about a week after it actually shows...but I'm still happy that I can watch it.
If you do wish to check out the entire series, I'd recommend YouTube. I may even go as far as give you each link for the ones I watched. Also, to get as hooked on the series as I am...I'd suggest you go and watch the series from the beginning; it explains a lot for what is currently going on.
What kind of project would that be...? Well, for me it would be an easy one!
Haha! Well, technically I wasnt really asking you to draw my characters...but if you still want to? Haha!
Well, I'm not sure if I'd like to wait that long. Maybe I will just work on head shots for the characters in my comic, sorta like you did here: [link] maybe that will give me an idea for him...
I would be so happy if this idea would work!!

Yup! I've been there!
Hmm, does it stream on Netflix? I've found Netflix to have better resolution, and you can watch episodes without having to search for the second half, which is convenient.
Oh! Haha! Misinterpretation...
Well, it would be fun to draw someone else's characters for a change...

Favorite-Equine In reply to LadyPep [2011-08-21 15:13:27 +0000 UTC]
Alright, so maybe you have been there.
Uhm. I'm not sure if it does or not. It might, but I'm pretty sure that Netflix doesnt have all the newest episodes...I'm not sure how often they update their movies. But if they do, it would be a good way to get hooked on the series, then move to YouTube when you're all caught up with what Netflix has.
Yeah, I've noticed that YouTube doesnt have that great of a picture. However I sometimes (which is most of the time) get caught up in the video that I totaly forget how crappy resolution it has!
Haha, thats alright. I think it would be, but then again it could be living a nightmare; cause you dont know what the other person wants. It'd be like drawing them a birthday present. You have no idea what they want for their birthday....lol.
Actually, I'm pretty excited! I got Cloud's new looks done, and he looks like one smexy stallion! Hehe!! I'm almost done with his character sheet to show off his new looks, and I cant wait!!
The contest has ended for the Make-a-Mare for Cloud, but I was wondering if you'd be interested in throwing in an entry. I just love your characters and it would be awesome to have a Cappy design as an entry

I really don't know either--I watch a lot of old shows on there, so it doesn't really matter to me.
Haha! Same here!
I just go with whatever I doodle during my spare time. XP
Great! When do you think it will be up??
I'll try--I don't really have a whole lot of time on my hands, but I'll try to send in something this weekend...before we move.

I'm not sure when his design will be up, however I hope to have it up soon. I just love his new design, his looks are kinda dark still...but he doesnt have the blonde bomshell hair look anymore!
Uhm. Actually I've already announced the winners for the contest...so there is no need. Equinechic was supposed to judge the entries, but I just couldnt wait any longer...so I picked the winners.
Lets see, maybe I'd be able to use the design you come up with someplace else in my comic. Hmm...what other spots are there to fill. I'm pretty sure that I'll be needing a Cowboy's horse for the "leader" of the Cowboy's group. What do you think?

Uhm, tack wise...probably not...just because I dont want to be responsible for destroying the design you come up with. It will mainly be western tack, so if you want to you can...but it's not necessary.

Aw, he's so cute! :hugs horsie!: He looks adorable!! I just hope he'll look just as cute as an adult, unless his temprament will change to more seriousness as he ages (as if he takes his job/duties seriously)
Alright, sounds good. Take your time. There's no hurry, as I cant even figure out how to do the prologue page yet...this is very frustrating.
Alright, sounds good. I'll try not to destroy your tack designs. If you make a blanket, you should do the design somewhat simple so I can at least get that right!

Haha, the funniest thing about receiving this from you; is that I just posted a comment on that sketch you posted!
He's perfect! Though I'm not sure if he'd still be the Cowboy horse that I was first thinking, so he may be casted for a different part...if that's ok with you.
I'll try to get some more characters up soon. I finally read all of our messages that we commented on this sketch of yours and refound the Equine Coat Colors Chart: [link] Which in turn gave me a few new ideas about my characters. It was so weird, but I love that it worked out that way. I was going to start thinking about looking around DA for designs I liked, but tweak them in a way so they'd be my own. And Judas was one of them I was looking at. So this works out perfect!
I think the plot has changed just a little bit, but I'm not exactly sure. I haven't really taken the time to write/type the entire plot out much, except for my little notes here and there...
Me either! That chart really got my mind going. I just cant wait. Now I just have to find some lines that I like enough to use all the way through for the designs, then I'll be set to go!

Yeah, Judas has been much help and has now gotten me back into being interested in my comic. I didnt think anything could have gotten me back interested in my comic, however seeing Judas' sketch that you did made me want to get back working on my comic.
Haha, yeah that's the problem with comics is that they can be so easily changed. However with my problem is that I dont like any of my plots that I start coming up with, and end up scrapping each one before I really have a chance to start on the comic itself. I feel that I just need some help on a start or a beginning so that way I have something to branch off of.
Yeah, I was thinking about just using some linearts which are free off of DA; just so that way I can start coming up with some designs.
