Character template by and I used it because it was the more physically appealing out of the two.

Please people, this is a character based off of the books, not the movie. Before criticizing read the books.

By the way, the blue tinge in her skin is intentional. It's remnants of her previous form in which most of her body was iceblue XD

Redraw of her. This is her present day. What she's wearing is her winter outfit when she holes herself in her house to power through her work (usually typing up articles that she has yet to jot down, she's a terrible procrastinator XD).

Ok, I'll TRY to explain her right now. Not sure if I'll succeed though. Okay, here we go.

Joyce Winters was a star whose job was to keep her surrounding constellations safe along with surrounding planets within her range. Her 'ship' is (was) called the Joy Treader and now exists buried very deep under Antarctica. She piloted it with the help of her animated ice 'creatures' (a few of them were also the vessels for her 'helpers' --the soul balls that you saw (probably) in the concept art picture-- who helped her maintain the course). She knew Kozmotis Pitchiner when she was quite young (for a star that is-- still growing and still quite warm) and she visited every so often. The last time she saw him was a few years before Pitch attacked her.

Despite her battle prowess and extended powers, she was defeated and tainted by his darkness. Pitch wanted to defeat her because at the time she was the MAIN threat to his take over. And another part was because Kozmotis (the person Pitch was before he was possessed by Fearlings) cared for her and therefore she MUST have been eliminated (you know the 'I will kill everything that you love' drill?).(nope nope nope oh god why -- she was just another star that he wanted to extinguish, that's it) Her ship was her birth place and essentially a part of her. It's her home. It was like Sandy's piloting comet (And he did have one. I based a lot of things from this character on the characters in the book which is the reason I'm getting a lot of shit from people). I've changed the role of the ship a bit in the newer version of my character template so it doesn't sound like a living being.

In an attempt to save what was left of both herself and the creatures that cared for her 'home' she set the ship on a course towards earth. Pitch had deemed her, at the time, as 'not worth finishing', preferring her to suffer and eventually be consumed by the darkness inside her (similar to Nightlight when he was trapped with Pitch in the dagger for YEARS on end). The ship itself turned dim and lost it's power as Pitch ravaged and destroyed the peace of the Golden age, in effect destroying Joy as she lost more and more believers.

Eventually, unlike the Moon Clipper which broke down and lost almost all of it's parts in the battle between Nightlight and Pitch, the Joy Treader kept going and crash landed into a lush paradise at the south pole, also known today as Antarctica. The contact with the star caused the land to quickly begin freezing (you know how cold those brown dwarfs can be??? Around -48C and that was at full power. A star is meant to be hot, it just is and a brown dwarf is considered a 'failed star' but a star noneoftheless. It's probably not scientific but I'm going with the fact that the temp dropped MASSIVELY as Joyce was out of commission and therefore unable to manage the temperature from dropping to a lower level. Another weakness on her part, getting too cold is absolutely deadly).

And... that's why Antarctica is the way it is today XD

(She is NOT a spirit or a guardian and therefore IS capable of being seen by all. She was a freakin star with no outside powers controlling her. The real reason she could've died was from power drain--essentially--because the withdraws and unusual lack of the energy running through her system keeping her alive (her body became used to wasting a lot of power). It took a long time for her recuperate.

For the people you say that this doesn't make sense seeing as all the other guardians needed belief to be seen well...

Jack is a spirit that is not only 'dead' but also under the moon's care. All the other guardians are also sworn under their oaths and have 'gained' immortality in return for their dependence on belief. Joyce was under no such oath and belief was just a natural power up and therefore at the loss of it she was back to square one. Bunnymund was capable of being seen without belief at one point, same with Toothiana and Sandman and all of the others (I'm talking about the books here) so I see no problem with this.

And... not only that but Joyce wasn't really trying to kill him--which she should have been and regrets immensely-- because she recognized him as her long time friend Kozmotis. She didn't want to hurt him at all and couldn't bring herself to kill him. She paid the price for her hesitation [*screaming omfg why why why*])

Joyce woke up sometime around the beginning of the first ice age and attempted to conciliate with the humans on the world but it turned out that her appearance made her look 'demonic' and rather made them attack her.

Over time her body learned to adapt (and understand that this process was both painful and slow). Her ears rounded, her eyes gained irises (that took her 200+ years to do), and she learned to hide everything else that was 'strange' about her with clothing and animal hide.

After that she began to learn how to blend into human society; however, it was then that she realized that humans had VERY short life spans. She watched as a countless amount of her friend aged and died in the time that, to her, was but a blink of an eye, and a bit of her broke inside as she realized just how cruel this world was.

She locked herself up in the remains of the Joy Treader and simply studied what she had abroad the ship, the library of the books she had collected over the years--from the stories of her childhood to that of information lost to time--that it harbored. She spent the rest of the first ice age and the next many millennia's memorizing the books word by word, flipping through the pages until they were worn and almost ineligible. When it became impossible to read you could say that Joyce started to lose it a bit and started to carve the letters into the metal of the ship, trying to get rid of the twitch that nagged at her, that didn't like staying put or being useless.

It convinced her to go back out, saying that maybe this time it would be better.

But no, this time it was worse. The number of humans had appeared to triple from the time she had went into isolation and it felt like she was crowded with so much noise.

But she tried to fit in, she didn't like the thought that she was running away and instead tried to learn their ways (The language, the customs, etc). She stuck to the colder regions, unable to handle the heat of the summers in other places despite her need for it (she couldn't be hot, but she couldn't be too cold). And not only that, but Joyce quickly realized that every 'area' had it's own customs and she had no desire to learn them all (She wasn't THAT desperate for something to do).

It only took her ten years this time to crack before she went back to hibernation.

This cycle continued for centuries upon centuries until the beginning of the construction of the Roman Empire. It seemed that humanity had become civilized enough for her to stand it (and some even called her an oracle, gift from the gods, etc due to her unearthly appearance UMMMMM).

The years turned to decades and the decades turned to centuries and it was then that Joyce realized that she had no need, nor did she want to, go back to sleep.

Despite the truth that she wasn't actually able to connect to others the way she wanted, the ex-star found that she liked being able to wander, to learn more about Earth.

It had taken her by surprise when she first realized that there was an actual season related to her element! She couldn't believe it!

Over time, she experienced as much as she could, she went to different human schools, she acted as the daughter of both royal and poor families of different countries, she took on both high and low jobs, and much more.

By the time the 2000s came around Joyce no longer felt the need to hole herself away. As long as she didn't come in contact with her past, she was fine.

In that decade the woman was considered a well known, yet not well known, author of a number of short children books. They were especially popular due to the bright and beautiful pictures that even adults fell in love with. She had a habit about writing whatever popped her mind or came to her in her dreams (None of them coming from Sandman), and her most recent one was about, you guessed it , Jack Frost. UMMMM WTF WAS I THINKING??? 16 YEAR OLD ME??? EXPLAIN???

And Joyce is completely clueless as she studies for her midterms in her first year majoring in molecular biology (*narrows eyes*) creative writing at Burgess Town College on top of typing up articles for her assignments at the local school newspaper (when you know nothing about how the world works xDD).

Let me go through a few other things:

Personality: Usually fun and easy (all i can think of is jack rn) going but around midterms and when it comes to school, no matter how many times she goes she still gets pissed at the smallest of things. (i really can't make this better :/ )

Yo! I've been getting a lot of shit about this old OC of mine so I decided to redraw her and make it clear that she is NOT a fucking rip off from Jack Frost. Here are some common questions I've been getting and the answers to them:

-_- I blame that mainly on my lack of ability to draw. In my OC template drawing, I was trying to draw what I imagined she would look like in modern times. I didn't make the ruff on her hood big enough nor did I make the actual hood baggy enough... And the jeans were poorly drawn. And... the proportions were terrible so there.

I was just trying to give her a look of a teenager living in a college town during winter! Excuse me for not giving her a distinct style (punk, rock, prep, etc...)!

She's a winter spirit so--

She's. Not. A. Winter. Spirit. She doesn't have to look like anything and I don't have to live up to ANYONE'S EXPECTATIONS! (ooo past me y so hostile??)

She can't be light and winter, pick one.

Got that in the beginning. I personally believe that that is pure bs. Joy was born a star (and stars CAN be cold contrary to popular belief--look it up) and she was born of light and warmth originally. As time passed, she began to cool and by the time the Golden Ages hit she was what one could refer to as a 'winter' deviant. And she isn't even winter. She's cold/ice. They're not the same thing. Despite this she retained her 'light'.

Her powers are just like Jacks'!

No. No they are not. Animating ice creatures... how many winter/ice characters haven't had that power? It was what she used for her crew during the GA (Golden Ages)! Riding wind currents... okay, I actually removed that power so you can't talk smack about it anymore. An arsenal of Ancient spells/magic... hmmm... I don't Jack knows ANYTHING about that. And then there is 'star dust' which could also be related to Jack's 'happy dust' or whatever it is. She is a star. OF COURSE SHE IS GOING TO HAVE STARDUST LIKE SANDMAN HAS DREAMSAND! (chill bru it's just a prank -n-)

And her staff... you do realize that staffs are also symbols of power and can be used to intimidate just as well as it can be used to attack? The staff isn't a holder of her magic like it is with Jack's either so nope. You can throw away that argument.
