Since SAI paint tool is such an amazing program - I wanted
to make a tutorial for it.
Though not on HOW to use the program itself, just another way of coloring using it.
This tutorial is really recommended for those who already
have a pretty good idea of how to use SAI, or pretty much any other painting software.
But it's not really tough at all so it'll be easy to follow.
Just ask me questions here or in a note if you need any help
with it.

Hi, I'm totally confused right now. Do you make a new layer and then put ur shades on top of the base color or do you just put ur shades directly on the base color without making a layer?

no problem! You asked the question quite a while ago though, so you probably figured it out already anyway, haha.

Great tutorial! Technology really intimidates me so things like this are really helpful, lol! I'm wondering if you can help me, I'm having a problem with saving my swatches. I draw a picture, save the colours I want to the swatch area and when I'm finished, I save the picture to file and exit SAI, however, the next time I open up the picture all the colours I had saved into the swatch area are forgotten!
Is there any way to fix this? Am I perhaps saving things wrong...? Thank you!

Hello i have one question i have this program and currently using a bamboo pen tablet ..i was wondering how do you make those lines like with the fade edges and they look really thin....
Is it in the setting of the brush or do you have to download a brush to make sketchy lines like that...?
Thank you c:

how do you blend usually? just with the same brush you used to color base colors?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
LaFatalite In reply to liltrix7 [2009-11-03 17:56:37 +0000 UTC]
When I used to use SAI - I used the same brush @ varied sizes.
Only the settings changed, so in a sense it IS the same brush
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
liltrix7 In reply to LaFatalite [2009-11-12 07:23:49 +0000 UTC]
really? you can blend with the brush tool? :0 I used the marker tool now for blending.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
LaFatalite In reply to liltrix7 [2009-11-12 09:27:32 +0000 UTC]
You sure can -
Which brush tool were you using ?
you can even use the airbrush tool - variate the pressure you put down with your pen, or change the opacity
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
liltrix7 In reply to LaFatalite [2009-11-13 18:34:38 +0000 UTC]
I just use like airbrush for main colors, and then I put on different colors, sometimes with airbrush and sometimes marker and blend with marker or water.
ohhh. okay I'll try that :0
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
LaFatalite In reply to liltrix7 [2009-11-13 19:41:50 +0000 UTC]
Haha, have fun with it!
The water color tool is useful (:
I've updated my file for the downloads to my brushes if you'd like to try 'em out.
