well, sure, when you use items like that
but for the most part, pony species are thought out really well and it's not always just sticking something on a pony
this one, for example, isn't just planets on a tail. its way more than that
also, most species have good background info on them and specific traits that make them really good
so, those satellite ponies/tuba ponies may seem ridiculous, but you have to look at more than just the pony itself

You know i never understood people charging other people for the chance to make a certain kind of pony species.

it's just so people don't completely steal the species plus the owner gets some points/money for their species

Some of them are crazy though, i mean the top tier pondpony costs more than 60$ High prices aside the fact that you have to pay for tiers astounds me.

yeah, sometimes prices can be high, but if it was cheap (or even free) then almost everyone would have a top tier pondpony

You may be right about that, i mean i do see a lot of alicorns out there.
But when you are the one making a character than being restricted feels kind of wrong.
I mean people who can't afford 60+$ don't deserve the honor of drawing a cartoon horse?

but thats why you have to work to get there
i own about 5-6 plant ponies, and none of them were cheap (about 500-1000 for each one)
i didn't magically have the money; i had to work for it and eventually i could get one
i understand that not everyone is going to be able to get $60 just to get a certain pony, but there are cheaper species out there

Lol the fact that you have to shop around for a pony like discount salmon is just hilarious, you can't deny that.
But honestly i still don't understand the whole obsession with buying species.
If i were to draw something i would imagine i would just call it whatever i want, i mean what's the point of not?
Is it like some sort of exclusive club that keeps all the poor riffraff out?

some people just like ponies that are a little more unique than just earth/pegasi/unicorn ponies
and there are plenty of good species that don't cost anything at all
its just that some owners would like to make money/points
they're not trying to separate the rich from the poor at all

But the thing i don't understand is why people DO buy species.
Sure someone came up with something and wants money for it sure,Β
but why do people actually pay for them?
I mean you could easily just make up your own unique thing and use that,
why pay for someone else's when they themselves aren't even making it for you?
The only reason i can think of is that species are treated as a sort of club with people paying for memberships.

We buy species because together, it's easier to be more known on DA and as well helps people get money/points.
If you create an OC of a species but no one makes one besides you, it's not a species. Just a character with particular traits.

people buy them because they like the idea and want something like that
and you can pay for them to make it for you as well
also sometimes its hard to come up with unique things by yourself, so people buy things that already exist, like me
and you don't need to have a pony included in a species to be well-known? i know plenty of people without ponies included in species, and they're ok with that

Well you do make some good points, but i still don't get it and most likely won't.
Probably because i've always felt that whatever an OC is should be wholly yours, i mean in a personal sense.
Heck honestly i can't draw for manure and have commissioned stuff before, but the idea, the character, their personality and just who they are in general.
That's all mine, not in a material sense but sort of a sentimental way. And people not only restricting themselves, but paying to do so,Β
Is just completely foreign to me.
