Well, Williams got days of news coverage while she got just a breif mention. Look, you be as sad as you want (or need) to be, but im just baffled when a civil right's activist doesnt receive as much greifing as an actor

it seems a bit unfair but this is society we are talking about even tho i admit robin's death was awful society only cares for big names and doesnt care about anyone else if the person dies and they are popular the media does everything to honor them but when a person who isnt really much of a star dies the media doesnt give a shit , but robin has done alot of good things and made alot of people laugh so he deserves news coverage :/

Well I don't disagree that we tend to elevate some people above others-justly or unjustly-it is only human nature. We simply cannot grieve on a personal level for the passing of millions of strangers. It's just too abstract a concept.
Sure, we can empathize and do our best to improve the lot of others in the world when they are down on their luck, but I'm sorry, anyone claiming to feel the pain of every injustice in the world is not only promoting falsehoods-they're insulting those very real people and their struggles.
That's where the whole "Oh, big deal, some actor died. People die all the time. Get over it," argument falls apart to me. Yes, people do die all the time. Some even die in a similar manner as Mr Williams, of things such as suicide brought on by depression, and yes, most of them don't get the recognition they deserve, but as humans we can't connect to a statistic. We need something more tangible.
Reasons like that are why his death garner such coverage. Is it any more a tragedy than most suicides? No. But as someone in the public spotlight, and as someone who-well only a select few can claim to truly know him, whatever some of his fans may feel from seeing his works-has garnered massive respect from millions of people, we can put a face on a very real problem and allow people to feel the impact of said issue in a slightly more real way.
If it means more awareness of the issue and perhaps more people getting the help they need as a result, how exactly is the news covering his death a bad thing?
On a final note, I'd just like to state that, well once again, I cannot claim to know him, I did have immense respect for him as an actor. He seemed like a very humble man, and although he was always trying to make people laugh, it was never in a way that seemed like he was doing it just for the attention. He genuinely seemed like he just wanted to see people smile.
To think that he was battling such serious issues at the same time, that he managed to take the pain in his own life and draw inspiration from it, use it to make something beautiful and bring happiness to others... Well, that just makes me respect him all the more.
Light is such a rare thing in the world. Shouldn't someone that could bring a little light into the lives of others be celebrated, even amidst the darkness?
